Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The essay addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the arguments regarding the health impacts of junk food are repetitive and lack specific evidence or examples to support the claims. While the prompt asks for a discussion of both views, the points made are quite general. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your reasoning with more detailed explanations or real-world examples. The position is consistent, but the depth of the analysis is insufficient to move beyond a mid-range score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use some cohesive devices like 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'On the other hand' to signal transitions. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or repetitive. Additionally, there are instances where the flow between sentences is slightly disjointed, such as in the second paragraph where the transition between the health risks of ingredients and the suggestion to ban advertisements is abrupt. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between ideas would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for a higher band. There are several errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'mater' instead of 'matter', 'testable' instead of 'tasty', and 'banded' instead of 'banned'. You rely on basic vocabulary, and there is little evidence of less common lexical items or idiomatic expressions. To improve, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and ensure that you are using words in their correct context and form.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow of reading. Examples include 'The debate whether junk food advertising should be banned... has become a mater', 'there are numerous predominant factors which suggest that junk food advertising should be banned is bater option', and 'advertisement is encourage people'. These errors involve subject-verb agreement, article usage, and sentence construction. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of errors prevents a higher score. Focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy.
