Student answer (Band 6.5)
obesity has become a serious public health issue in many countries around the world. While some individuals believe that advertising for unhealthy food is the primary cause of this problem and should therefore be prohibited, other argue that advertisements are not responsible and should not face restriction. in my view, although marketing makes fast food attractive, obesity is largely driven by individual lifestyle habits and lack of physical exercise.
On the one hand, those who advocate for a ban point out powerful psychological influence of fast-food advertisements, particularly on children and young adults. Commercials often use colorful animation and promotional toys to present high calorie meals as exciting and desirable. Because young audiences are easily influenced, the frequently ask their parents to purchase these products, leading to regular consumption of items packed with sugar, salt, and unhealthy fats. For instance, countries that restricts fast-food commercials during children's television program have seen a reduction in impulsive junk-food purchases, demonstrating that advertising dose encourage poor eating choices.
On the other hand, many people argue that advertisement do not directly cause weight gain and that personal accountability is what truly matters. An individuals gain weight when their daily caloric intake exceeds the energy they burn, regardless of whether they watch television or browser social media. In the modern world, technological conveniences, desk job, and long screen time have created widespread sedentary lifestyles. Moreover, fast food is often chosen simply because it is quick, inexpensive and readily available for busy working individuals. Banning commercial marketing would not change the demand for affordable, ready-to-eat meal or force people to exercise.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both sides of the argument and providing a clear personal opinion in the introduction. The ideas are relevant and well-developed, particularly the discussion on psychological influence versus personal accountability. The position is consistent throughout the essay. To reach a higher band, the conclusion could be more robustly developed to summarize the main points and reiterate the final stance, as the current response ends abruptly after the second body paragraph without a formal concluding paragraph.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with clear paragraphing. Each paragraph has a central topic, and cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand,' 'On the other hand,' and 'Moreover' are used effectively to guide the reader. However, there are minor issues with referencing and flow; for example, the transition between the introduction and the first body paragraph is slightly abrupt. The use of cohesive devices is generally accurate, though occasionally mechanical. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is sufficient to convey ideas with precision. The student uses topic-specific terms like 'sedentary lifestyles,' 'caloric intake,' and 'impulsive junk-food purchases' appropriately. There are some minor errors in word form, such as 'other argue' (should be 'others argue') and 'countries that restricts' (should be 'restrict'). While the range is adequate for the task, it lacks the more sophisticated, idiomatic, or less common lexical items that would characterize a higher band score. The spelling is generally accurate throughout the text.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There is good control over complex sentences, such as 'Because young audiences are easily influenced, they frequently ask their parents...' However, there are several grammatical slips, including subject-verb agreement errors ('advertisement do not,' 'countries that restricts') and missing articles ('desk job' should be 'desk jobs'). While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication. To improve, the student should focus on proofreading for basic agreement and pluralization errors to increase the frequency of error-free sentences.
