Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by discussing both views and providing an opinion. However, the development of ideas is significantly hindered by unclear expression and fragmented sentences. While you attempt to argue that personal mindset and exercise are more important than advertising, the lack of coherent explanation makes it difficult to follow your logic. The arguments are repetitive and lack specific, relevant evidence. To improve, focus on structuring your paragraphs with a clear topic sentence followed by a logical explanation and a concrete example. Ensure your position is clearly stated and consistently maintained throughout the essay rather than relying on disjointed phrases.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, which is a positive start. However, the logical progression of ideas is frequently interrupted by poor sentence structure and a lack of cohesive devices. You rely on basic transitions like 'In the one hand' or 'In conclusion', but the internal flow within paragraphs is often confusing. Many sentences are disconnected, making it hard for the reader to follow the argument. To improve, use a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'consequently', 'furthermore', 'in contrast') and ensure that each sentence logically follows the previous one to create a smoother, more cohesive narrative.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite limited and often used incorrectly, which frequently impedes communication. Phrases like 'huge to criticize' and 'issue supply to the problem' are unnatural and unclear. You rely on a very narrow range of words, often repeating 'junk food', 'obesity', and 'problem' throughout the text. To reach a higher band, you need to expand your vocabulary to include more precise terms related to health, marketing, and societal issues. Focus on learning collocations (words that naturally go together) rather than just individual words, and try to avoid repeating the same basic vocabulary in every sentence.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The grammatical control is weak, with frequent errors in sentence structure, subject-verb agreement, and word order. Many sentences are fragmented or lack a clear subject and verb, such as 'another people junk food not the advertising not the issue'. There is almost no use of complex sentence structures, and the basic sentences present are often inaccurate. To improve, focus on mastering simple sentence construction first: ensure every sentence has a clear subject, verb, and object. Once you have achieved accuracy in simple sentences, begin practicing the use of relative clauses and subordinating conjunctions to build more complex, error-free structures.
