Student answer (Band 6.0)
Our world is suffering from numerous problems, and the obesity is one of them, which is further causing an adverse situation for the society. In order to address this issue, some people believe that advertising of junk food should be banned, while other argue it does not contributed to the problem of obesity and should not be banned. I partially believe with the statement because it helps to increase the sales, on the other hand sometimes companies describes their fast food as a healthy diet, which spread a misleading information in the society.
There are several reasons to support that advertisement should be banned but the formost one is that it spread misleading information in the society, many international fast food companies describe their food as a healthy diet and use unique ideas to influence the young people to buy their fast food. As a result, many individuals find it more convenient to buy and eat than cooking food, which lead them to obesity in long term. To cite an example, many multinational companies such as MacDonald's spend highest proportion of their income on advertisement. Consequently, when person find it through different modes they may start trusting them. Therefore, it should be banned.
On the other hand, some critics argue that the junk food advertising does not contributes to the problem of obesity which is often true because the every person
has rights to advertise their product, is lead
them to increase their sales. They only try to encourages
the people not fully enforce them to buy. Moreover, companies in order to
maintain the standards often use high quality
products, which helps to decrease the risk of obesity.
A research carried out showed that, individually
junk food is not responsible for obesity, many
other factors such as poor eating habit and sleep
also lead to risk of obesity. Hence,
advertisment plays an important role in increasing the
sales rather than cause obesity.
In conclusion, although advertisement promotes
unhealthy food, it also helps the local business to promote their food. In addition junk foods are not self responsible for obesity. So, I personally
believe, a balance approach is more effective here.
Instead of banning, the higher authorities need
to enforce the strict rules to also mention the precaution of eating this fast food in the advertisments.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views—that junk food advertising should be banned due to its contribution to obesity and that it does not contribute and should not be banned—while also presenting a clear personal opinion. The writer's position is introduced in the introduction ("I partially believe with the statement...") and maintained throughout. Main ideas are extended and supported, such as the mention of multinational companies spending large proportions of their income on advertising and the counter-argument concerning alternative factors like poor eating habits and sleep. However, some arguments tend to over-generalise or lack deeper specific evidence, placing the response solidly within the Band 6.0 to 6.5 range. Given the complete coverage of the task parts and clear stance, a band score of 6.0 is appropriate.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear paragraphing structure, dividing the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion logically. Cohesive devices are used to signal transitions, such as "On the other hand", "To cite an example", and "In conclusion". However, referencing and cohesion are sometimes faulty or mechanical, and certain sentences feel disjointed due to awkward phrasing (e.g., "is lead them to increase their sales"). Paragraphing is used sufficiently, but internal logical progression within paragraphs occasionally stumbles due to grammatical interference. Therefore, the coherence and cohesion reflect a Band 6.0 performance.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as "multinational companies", "misleading information", and "convenient". However, there are noticeable word-choice and collocation errors throughout the text, such as saying "obesity is one of them" with an unnecessary article, "does not contributed" (grammatical lexical slip), and "a balance approach" instead of "a balanced approach". Spelling and word formation are generally clear enough not to impede communication, but these frequent minor inaccuracies prevent the response from achieving a Band 7.0. A band score of 6.0 is well-suited here.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at subordination and relative clauses (e.g., "...many international fast food companies describe their food as a healthy diet and use unique ideas to influence the young people..."). However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, including subject-verb agreement issues ("the obesity is one of them", "the every person"), tense errors ("does not contributed"), and run-on structures or comma splices. Despite these errors, meaning is rarely obscured, allowing communication to flow. This balance of mixed structures and persistent errors aligns with a Band 5.5 to 6.0; leaning toward the positive markers, a 6.0 is awarded.
