Student answer (Band 5.5)

In few societies, obesity is the major issue. It is argued by some individuals that junk food advertising is largely to blame for this problem and should be banned. However, others feel that junk food advertising does not contribute to the problem of obesity and should not be banned. I strongly agree to the former view. This essay will discuss about both views in the upcoming paragraphs.

On the one hand, in these days, the consumption of fast food is increasing among children, which has a negative effect on their health, as children not only suffer from obesity but also face issues regarding their physical health and infection problems as well. This is happened because most of the advertisements are done by the famous celebrities by which celebrities earn money, but children who love them, they just follow their celebrites and buy that items for eating which promotes by their popular celebrities, without knowing the drawbacks of that food.As a result, advertising is the major reason for consuming fast food and it should be banned.

On the other hand, some people believe that advertising on junk food should not be banned. The best explanation is that advertising plays an imperative role, as people know about the products and items which are newly launched and obesity is depend on the person's that what they eat and how much they do. For example, a person who like to eat food from outside and he never cook food at home and do exercise. This will become the reason of obesity, which will not happened by the junk food advertising. This all happened by the person's eating habits and not go for exercises. Hence, advertising should not be blamed for obesity.

In conclusion, although there are many benefits of advertising, but their drawbacks cannot be neglected due to some reasons which i have been mentioned and I believe advertising is the major issue for prompting fast food and it should be banned.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on junk food advertising and clearly stating a personal position in favour of banning such ads. The ideas are extended, particularly in the first body paragraph regarding celebrity influence and children, although the counter-argument in the second body paragraph is somewhat repetitive and less developed. The writer maintains a clear position throughout the essay, meeting the main requirements for Band 6.5 or 6. To reach a higher band, the arguments presented in both paragraphs need deeper exploration and more sophisticated real-world evidence rather than generalized assertions.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is divided into logical paragraphs with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion' are used to structure the text. However, referencing and cohesion can be faulty or mechanical at times, as seen in complex sentence structures like 'which children who love them, they just follow their celebrites and buy that items for eating which promotes by their popular celebrities'. Paragraphing is present and appropriate, but overall progression within the paragraphs occasionally stumbles due to run-on sentences and repetitive phrasing, aligning with the Band 6 descriptors.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The writer attempts less common vocabulary such as 'imperative role', 'consumption', and 'drawbacks'. However, there are numerous lexical and spelling errors, such as 'celebrites' instead of 'celebrities', 'promotes' instead of 'promoted', and awkward collocations like 'infection problems' and 'obesity is depend on'. Vocabulary range is adequate for the task, but errors in word choice and spelling are noticeable and occasionally impede readability. These characteristics place the lexical performance firmly at Band 5.5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an attempt at ambitious structures like relative clauses and conditionals. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('obesity is depend on', 'what they eat and how much they do'), tense inconsistencies ('This is happened'), and incorrect prepositions ('go for exercises'). Punctuation is also weak in places, leading to long, unfocused run-on sentences. Because errors occur frequently and occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, a Band 5.0 is appropriate.
