Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by attempting to discuss both views regarding junk food advertising and providing a personal opinion in the introduction. However, the task achievement is heavily compromised because the essay is significantly under-length, containing only 202 words compared to the required 250-word minimum. This results in under-developed ideas, particularly in the body paragraphs where arguments about health effects, social media, and busy schedules are introduced but lack sufficient explanation or concrete examples. The position is stated, but the lack of elaboration prevents full development of the task. Therefore, a band score of 5.0 is appropriate.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay attempts a standard four-paragraph structure, including an introduction and distinct body paragraphs signalled by transition phrases such as 'On the one hand' and 'On the other hand'. However, logical progression is frequently hindered by awkward phrasing, run-on sentences, and repetitive structures. Cohesive devices are sometimes used incorrectly or mechanically (e.g., 'This is because, various social media platforms can influence childrens and teenagers, that developing them interests of food'). Paragraphing is present, but internal cohesion is weak due to grammatical and lexical interference, making the overall flow halting. This performance aligns with a band 5.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is relatively basic and repetitive, with noticeable errors in word choice and word formation that occasionally impede the reader's understanding. Examples include 'advertisement play a crucial role in introduced new brand food' (introducing), 'repeatitive' (repetitive), 'imidiately' (immediately), and 'habitually interested' (accustomed/keen). The student attempts some less common vocabulary items like 'crucial role' and 'global', but inaccurate collocations and persistent spelling errors demonstrate a limited control of lexical resource, fitting the band 5.0 descriptors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but these attempts are frequently marred by foundational grammatical errors. Frequent errors include missing articles, incorrect verb forms ('advertising of junk food have no contribute'), dangling modifiers, and faulty relative clauses ('that developing them interests of food'). Punctuation and spacing errors are also prevalent throughout the text. While simple sentences are sometimes accurate, the high frequency of complex-sentence errors causes noticeable difficulty for the reader, matching the band 5.0 criteria.
