Student answer (Band 5.0)

In some communities, people thinks that fatness is a very swear issue for health. Some people think that marketing of unhealthy food is a main cause for this problem and it should be banned. In any case, several majority believe that fast food ads are not related to the issues with obesity and unhealthiness.

It seems to me that promotion of junk food is not encourage people to eat, until they do not make plan for it. For example, ads of fast food did not give you cravings about fast food. People eat junk food when they make plans to go outside and eat some meals with friends and relatives. We cannot blame the promotion or restaurants for our

stomach illness and issues. Banned on the advertising is not a solution or even not a fear with restaurants owners who invest their money and energy to build that business.

From my point of view, sometimes the advertising of unhealthy food can cause major problem to attract people for eating it. For example, the young generation who is highly addictive to the social media, the promotion of food can encourage them to eat because they usually want to do that what they see on social media. For example, some younger want be a influencer of food vlogger.

In conclusion, although unhealthy food advertising can encourage some people to eat junk food, banning such promotion is not the only solution, and individuals should also take responsibility for maintaining a healthy lifestyle and diet.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views on junk food advertising and providing a personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. For instance, the writer states in the second paragraph that 'promotion of junk food is not encourage people to eat', which lacks strong supporting evidence. The opinion shifts slightly or appears contradictory across paragraphs—initially arguing that advertisements do not cause cravings, but later acknowledging that 'the advertising of unhealthy food can cause major problem to attract people'. While a clear position is established by the conclusion, the reasoning requires better extension and clearer examples to meet higher band criteria. Overall, the task is addressed, placing the response in Band 5.5.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organised into four paragraphs with a basic structure consisting of an introduction, body paragraphs addressing both sides, and a conclusion. However, overall progression is hindered by awkward transitions and logical disconnects between sentences. Cohesive devices are used, but sometimes inaccurately or mechanically, such as 'In any case' and 'For example' used repeatedly within the same paragraph. Paragraphing is present, but the internal flow of arguments lacks seamless connectivity. Referencing and pronoun use are occasionally unclear, particularly regarding who 'they' or 'them' refers to in the body paragraphs. These issues point clearly to a Band 5.0 level of coherence and cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is generally basic and repetitive, with several noticeable errors in word choice, form, and collocation. Examples include 'fatness' instead of obesity, 'swear issue' instead of severe issue, 'several majority' instead of a large majority, and 'Banned on the advertising' instead of Banning advertising. The writer attempts less common phrases such as 'take responsibility for maintaining a healthy lifestyle', but word choice inaccuracies—like 'addictive to the social media' and 'want be a influencer'—cause some strain for the reader. These limitations restrict the lexical score to Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay exhibits a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences alongside frequent faulty attempts at complex forms. There are numerous grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('people thinks', 'ads of fast food did not give'), incorrect verb forms ('is not encourage', 'can cause major problem'), and missing articles. Punctuation is generally acceptable, but frequent structural errors cause difficulty for the reader and impede smooth communication at times. The frequency and nature of these grammatical mistakes place this response firmly at Band 5.0.
