Student answer (Band 5.0)

Obesity is a serious threat to our health, it is the mother to all chronic heart related disorders. When we deeply study the root cause of obesity, eating junk food can be the one. A proportion of people are reluctant to ban the advirtising companies as they blame them for the high consumption of junk food which results in obesiy. While, there are also people who donot agree on this point that only the junk food advertising forces are responsible for obesity in people and they feel comfortable if the advertisement is not banned.

In my school of thought, i believe that yes the advertisement plays a vital role in the sale and purchase of any product whether it could be junk food. Because when one showcases one's product in a fascinating way for the public then ultimately it's demand will rise, as people love funky material to in their living styles. Therefore, if any junk food brand presents it's burger or pizza in a charming style so it might hypnotize the eaters which will force them to have some. Soon they will be addicted to it and result in obesity. Therefore in my opinion the advertisement should be banned for the betterment of obese people.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both views regarding junk food advertising and includes your own opinion. However, there are significant limitations in development. The arguments are somewhat repetitive and rely heavily on general assertions, such as the idea that advertisements 'hypnotize' eaters, without bringing in deeper real-world examples or fully exploring the counter-argument about personal responsibility. Furthermore, a major penalty must be applied for length: the response contains only 206 words, falling well short of the 250-word minimum required for Academic Task 2. Consequently, the task has only been partially addressed due to under-development and insufficient length, placing it firmly within the Band 5 descriptor range.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is divided into two paragraphs, separating the introduction/discussion of views from your personal opinion. There is a basic attempt at logical progression, using cohesive devices such as 'While, there are also people' and 'Therefore'. However, referencing and transitions are at times awkward or mechanical, such as starting consecutive sentences with 'Therefore' in the second paragraph. The organization lacks the sophisticated paragraphing and fluid signposting expected at higher bands. While the overall meaning remains clear despite these structural limitations, the cohesion is somewhat faulty and repetitive.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common phrases such as 'chronic heart related disorders', 'root cause', and 'hypnotize the eaters'. However, there are noticeable lexical and spelling errors that detract from the quality, most notably 'advirtising' and 'obesiy'. Additionally, some phrasing is unnatural or colloquial, such as 'In my school of thought, i believe' and 'funky material to in their living styles'. These errors and informal expressions restrict the vocabulary score to Band 5, as they show a limited ability to handle precise word choice and collocation consistently.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writing exhibits a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some ambition with structures like subordinate clauses ('When we deeply study...'). However, punctuation and grammar control are weak throughout. For example, the opening sentence is a comma splice ('Obesity is a serious threat to our health, it is the mother...'). There are also awkward capitalization choices ('i believe') and tense/preposition inaccuracies, such as 'donot agree on this point that'. Because complex structures frequently contain errors and punctuation slips are common, the grammar falls into the Band 5 category where frequent errors can occasionally cause slight difficulty.
