Student answer (Band 5.0)
"Obesity is regarded as a major problem". This has become an integral part of rising debate in the present world. Some people believe that junk food advertising is largely to blame for this problem and should be banned. However, others feel that junk food advertising does not contribute to the problem of obesity and should not be banned. In my opinion, junk food advertisment has an impact and contribute to the problem of obesity.
To commence with, there are a number of arguments in favour of my belief. The most prominent one is that the visuals have long lasting effect. For instance, when someone see an appealing and eye catchy content, he automatically gets attracted towards it.
Obesity is the root cause of several diseases. For instance, obesity leads to diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol and heart issues.
However, the opponents are completely against the relevance of the topic. They may point out that one of the most significant disadvantages of banning the junk food advertisment is that, it results in huge loss of economy.
Critics also think that advertisment is not contributing in obesity. If someone is not concerned about his health, he would get the affected even with out seeing the advertisment.
To conclude, even when there are a lot of demerits associated with the topic, advantages outweigh the disadvantages, and has beciome a crucial part of our lives. Therefore, such advertisment should be banned and condemned. However, the positive use of advertisment should be promoted.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response attempts to address all parts of the prompt by discussing both views on junk food advertising and providing an opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. For instance, the argument that visuals have a 'long lasting effect' is stated simply without detailed extension or specific evidence. Furthermore, the response is under the minimum length requirement, containing 247 words instead of the required 250, which impacts the overall completeness of the task. While a clear position is established that advertising contributes to obesity and should be banned, the superficial development of points and the failure to meet the word count constrain the score for this criterion to Band 5.5.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay displays a basic logical organisation with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, paragraphing is fragmented, with several single-sentence paragraphs such as 'Obesity is the root cause of several diseases,' which disrupts the natural flow of ideas. Cohesive devices are used, but they are sometimes mechanical or awkwardly phrased, such as 'To commence with' and 'However, the opponents are completely against the relevance of the topic.' Referencing is occasionally unclear, and the overall progression between ideas lacks smooth transitions. While the structure is coherent enough to follow the writer's line of thought, the mechanical cohesion and poor paragraphing place this performance securely at Band 5.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student uses a sufficient range of vocabulary to communicate basic ideas about obesity and advertising, employing terms such as 'integral part,' 'prominent,' and 'disadvantages.' However, there are noticeable lexical errors and awkward collocations throughout the text, including 'advertisment' (misspelled multiple times), 'get the affected,' and 'loss of economy' instead of 'economic loss.' Attempts at less common vocabulary are sporadic and often inaccurate, such as 'beciome.' While the vocabulary is adequate to convey the general message, these frequent inaccuracies and spelling mistakes prevent the student from achieving a higher band, making Band 5.0 an appropriate evaluation.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, such as conditional forms ('If someone is not concerned about his health, he would get the affected...'). However, grammatical accuracy is weak, with frequent errors including subject-verb agreement issues ('when someone see', 'content, he automatically gets'), article omissions, and awkward phrasing ('would get the affected even with out seeing'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but grammatical slips are recurrent enough to cause occasional difficulty for the reader. Because the control of grammar is inconsistent and complex structures frequently contain errors, this warrants a band score of 5.0.
