Student answer (Band 6.0)
Obestity has become an increasingly pressing issue in many parts of the world. There is an ongoing debate about whether fast food marketing should be banned permanently since it is a major contributor of obesity, while others contend that unhealthy food has nothing to do with obesity and therefore it should not be made illegal. This essay will examine both perspactives before presenting my personal viewpoint.
On the one hand, supporters of the former view argue that excessive junk food advertising has influenced individuals significantly to consume unhealthy food. There is no denying that such food is generally made using unhealthy oil and its consumption creates a lot of digestive problems. Consequently, people become obese. Another compelling argument to support this viewpoint is that fast food include high levels of fats that can potentially have adverse effects on people with weaker metabolism.
Conversely, proponents of the opposing viewpoint maintain that people's poor habit of living a sedentary life makes them fat. In other words, they do not actively participate in any physical tasks or exercise. As a consequence, they become obese. They argue that eating junk food does not make you obese provided that you burn calories by goint to the gym, cycling or running regularly.
Personally, I believe that both consumption junk food and people's poor habits contribute to health issues such as obesity. This is primarily because a person eating unhealthy food is as much prone to become obese as others who barely participate in any physical tasks.
Having examined both views carefully, I believe that people's poor eaiting habits can result in obeseity. However, their habits of living a sedentary lifestyle is also equally responsible to this health problem.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on junk food advertising and providing a personal opinion. The student's position is clear throughout the essay, beginning with the introduction and restated in the body paragraphs and conclusion. Ideas are relevant, such as discussing sedentary lifestyles and metabolic health. However, some arguments remain slightly under-developed; for example, the explanation of how fast food impacts metabolism is brief. To reach a higher band, the ideas could be extended with more detailed examples or broader real-world contexts. Nevertheless, the task is successfully fulfilled, satisfying the core requirements for Band 6.5 or 7.0, leaning toward solid fulfillment with clear stance maintenance.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay displays a clear overall progression with a recognizable introduction, body paragraphs addressing distinct viewpoints, and a concluding section. Logical organization is evident through the use of signposting phrases such as 'On the one hand', 'Conversely', and 'Personally, I believe'. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different facets of the debate. However, referencing and cohesion occasionally feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor structural repetitions. For instance, the transition in the final paragraphs could flow more smoothly. Overall, the structural framework is logical and easy to follow, supporting effective communication throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'sedentary life', 'metabolism', and 'adverse effects'. However, there are notable spelling errors, such as 'Obestity' in the opening sentence and 'perspactives', 'include', and 'goint' later in the text. Word choices and collocations are generally functional but occasionally imprecise, such as 'consumption junk food' missing a preposition. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning, these frequent minor slips and spelling mistakes prevent the response from achieving a higher lexical band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and conditional structures such as 'provided that you burn calories by going to the gym'. There are several grammatical errors and awkward phrasings, including 'fast food include' instead of 'includes', 'consumption of junk food' instead of 'consumption junk food', and 'responsible to this health problem' instead of 'responsible for'. Additionally, the conclusion contains a spelling and grammatical error with 'obeseity' and 'habits of living a sedentary lifestyle is also equally responsible'. Despite these frequent errors, the meaning is rarely impeded, allowing the reader to follow the arguments without major difficulty.
