Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on junk food advertising and providing an opinion, which meets the basic requirements of the prompt. The student presents arguments regarding why advertisements should be banned, such as targeting children and increasing calorie consumption, as well as counter-arguments focusing on active lifestyles and personal choice. However, the development of these ideas is limited and somewhat superficial. For instance, the discussion on active lifestyles is underdeveloped, and the reasoning jumps quickly without deep elaboration. Furthermore, the position in the introduction is slightly confusing ('In this essay I discussed both of view before giving any opinion about why advertising should be banned'). Due to the under-development of ideas and minor lapses in clarity of position, this performance aligns with Band 5.5.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay has a basic organizational structure with clear paragraph breaks separating the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. However, the logical progression is frequently disrupted by awkward phrasing and mechanical transitions. For example, cohesive devices like 'To begin with' and 'On the other hand' are used, but referencing is often unclear (e.g., 'who is against to banned addvetis, they say it not effect on body fast'). Paragraphing is present, but internal cohesion within paragraphs suffers from abrupt shifts in ideas and lack of smooth logical flow. The overarching progression lacks the flexibility required for higher bands, placing this response firmly at a Band 5.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, frequently constrained by spelling and word-form errors that reflect a limited range. Examples include 'aruge' for argue, 'greddeness' for greediness, 'testy' for tasty, 'calaries' for calories, and 'addvetis' for advertisements. While the student attempts some topic-specific vocabulary related to health and advertising, such as 'obesity', 'fast food', and 'advertising', the high frequency of spelling and word-choice errors causes some difficulty for the reader. There is little evidence of less common lexical items used with precision. These characteristics correspond directly to the Band 5 descriptors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences and basic sentence patterns. Attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty, leading to severe grammatical inaccuracies that obscure meaning in places. Notable errors include subject-verb agreement issues ('obesity become', 'add banned should be'), incorrect tense usage ('this culture, many people facing'), and missing articles or prepositions. Punctuation is also problematic throughout the text, with run-on sentences and comma splices. Because the grammatical errors are frequent and often cause difficulty for the reader, this warrants a Band 5.0 score.
