Student answer (Band 6.0)

In many societies obesity has become a serious health issue . Some people argue that advertising of junk food is a major cause of this problem and should be banned ,while other believes that advertising is not responsible .This eassay will discuss both views and arguethat junk food advertising should be restricted.

On one hand there strong reasons to ban junk food advertising, Advertisements are very powefull and they influence people ,especially childern.Companies use attractive images and famouse personalities to promote unhealthy food like burgers, chips and sugary drinks.Childern who watch thses ads regularly may demand the same food from their parents, leading to poor eating habits from a young age.For example, in pakistan ,many children prefer fast food over home-made meals because of constant exposure to such ads on social media

On the other hand ,Some people claim that junk food advertising does not cause obesity . they argue they obesity is caused by personal choices ,lack of exercise and an unhealthy lifestyle, not just by advertisements.People know what they are eating ,and they have the freedom to choose healthy food .therefore ,banning ads will not solve the problem instead people should be educated about healthy eating and exercise.

In my opinion, although personal responsibility is more important ,the government should ban or control junk food advertising particularly those targeting children. Advertising makes unhealthy food seems normal and desirable, and children are not mature enough to make healthy choices.

In conclusion, while junk food advertising is not the only cause of obesity it contributes significantly to the problem. So, restricting such advertisenments along with the pwomoting health education is a more effective solution.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both sides of the debate regarding junk food advertising and providing a clear personal opinion. The writer establishes a position in the introduction and maintains it throughout the essay, concluding logically. Ideas are extended with relevant examples, such as mentioning children in Pakistan being influenced by social media ads for fast food. While some points could be explored in greater depth to reach a higher band, the overall task requirements are fully covered, demonstrating a competent understanding of the prompt and fulfilling the criteria for Band 6.5 or a solid Band 6.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay is divided into logical paragraphs, including an introduction, two body paragraphs discussing opposing views, a personal opinion paragraph, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'In my opinion', though some transitions feel a bit mechanical. There are also occasional mechanical issues with spacing and punctuation around commas and periods (e.g., missing spaces after punctuation marks). However, the overall progression is clear, and the logical organization allows the reader to follow the argument easily, supporting a Band 6 rating.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, using terms such as 'obesity', 'fast food', 'personal responsibility', and 'health issue'. There are several spelling errors, including 'eassay' instead of essay, 'arguethat' instead of argue that, 'powefull' instead of powerful, 'childern' instead of children, 'famouse' instead of famous, 'thses' instead of these, and 'pwomoting' instead of promoting. Despite these vocabulary and spelling inaccuracies, the meaning remains clear throughout the response, fitting the description for Band 6 where vocabulary is minimally adequate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms. The writer attempts various structures, such as conditional and concessive clauses ('Although personal responsibility is more important, the government should ban...'). However, there are frequent grammatical and punctuation errors, including run-on sentences, missing spaces after punctuation, and minor subject-verb agreement slips ('other believes' instead of others believe). While these errors are noticeable, they rarely impede communication, placing the response firmly in the Band 6 category.
