Student answer (Band 5.5)
Nowadays, the obesity is become a growing concern among many societies. There is ongoing debate between some people regarding the junk food advertisements. Many people are against the promotions because they think it leads towards weight gain and some argues that it dose not have any contributing part. In my opinion, both sides have their own cons and pros.
On the one hand, supporters of the first view argue that junk food marketing should be banned. I think its very beneficial for children because they cannot differentiate between the marketing and entertainment. Constant exposure can force people to think that high-sugar, high-calories, low nutrient, foods are normal and eventually they start to consume on a daily basis. For example, the healthy foods like vegetables and fruits have no promotion and eventually it has reverse physiology effect. We tend to think that junk food is normal and healthy food become occasional for us.
Some people are against of banning because obesity is someone's personal choice. If you think that you are gaining weight, then you have to control your diet. For example, the effected persons have to maintain their lifestyle in piles. If you think that food contain the ingredient that cause you piles then definitely someone will become caution. Similarly, many individuals are allergic to peanut and they are aware of peanut containing food. So, its totally in your hand to maintain your weight. Also banning can make us forget about the root cause of obesity. People will still crave of these food, meaning a ban alone will not solve this problem.
In conclusion, I think government must make it mandatory to ban ads form children, and youth platforms. But totally banning it will not give much benefits. Give education and awareness about controlling the diet will become more beneficial.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on junk food advertising and providing a clear personal opinion. The writer argues both for restricting ads aimed at children and for individual responsibility regarding diet and lifestyle choices. However, some ideas are slightly under-developed or contain unclear expressions, such as referencing 'piles' in relation to food ingredients and health issues. Despite this, the main positions are identifiable and supported with relevant examples like peanut allergies and children's susceptibility to marketing. This performance aligns best with the Band 6 descriptors, as all parts of the task are addressed with relevant ideas, though some areas lack full clarity and development.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, distinct body paragraphs exploring opposing views, and a concluding summary. Cohesive devices are used to connect ideas, such as 'On the one hand' and 'In conclusion'. However, referencing and transitions are occasionally mechanical or slightly faulty, such as 'Some people are against of banning because...' which abruptly introduces the counter-argument without a smooth transitional marker. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct arguments. Based on these features, the response fits the Band 6 descriptors, where the progression is generally coherent despite some awkward transitional phrasing and mechanical cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common phrases such as 'ongoing debate', 'differentiate between', and 'root cause of obesity'. However, there are notable word-choice and collocation errors throughout the text, including 'the obesity is become', 'dose not have', and the confusing use of 'piles' when discussing health effects. Spelling and word formation errors, such as 'effected persons' instead of 'affected persons', occur occasionally. These errors do not heavily impede communication, but they restrict the lexical score to Band 5.5, sitting comfortably between the Band 5 and Band 6 descriptions due to noticeable limitations and inaccuracies.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating clauses with 'because', 'although', and conditional structures. However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are frequent errors in verb forms, articles, and prepositions, such as 'the obesity is become', 'its very beneficial', 'healthy foods like vegetables and fruits have no promotion and eventually it has reverse physiology effect', and 'crave of these food'. Punctuation is also occasionally weak. While the errors do not completely obscure the meaning, their frequency prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. This performance meets the criteria for Band 5.0, characterized by a limited range of structures and frequent grammatical errors.
