You should use your own ideas, knowledge and experience·and support your arguments with examples and relevant evidence. Write at least 250 words.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Most of the people argue that public promotion and advertising of junk food is mainly the root cause of obesity in our society and therefore, public advertisement of junk food should be banned. Whereas other people believe that sedernity lifestyle, poorly mainted dietary habits is a major cause for being overweight. I strongly agree with the latter view becasue recently over the few decades our eating habits, dietary routines and physcial activity standards have seen an 180 degrees shift. Putting all the blame only on junk food advertisement and banning it would not solve our problems.

According to studies by Harvard Medical Center of dietary planning and nutritions it is confirmed that eating junk only contributes to 1/3rd of a reason for over weight among 95% of Americans. The rest two and half depends solely on one's physcial activity and genetical metabolism. Altough readily avaliable junk food advertisement can stimulate persons eating buds to order and eat but banning the advertisement won't solve the actual bone in meat.

For instance the real problem is not with the junk food itself or it's advertisement, it is with the unburned calories which eventually comes from ones sedentry lifestyle. Even if we see the junk food promotional ads everyday we should control ourself and we should have our own eating meal plan that we should follow. Consequently if we have a proper diet plan to follow up, some physical activity, with addition to some light cardio even eating junk won't be the problem.

Altough excessive advertisement of junk food can lead to disturbing people healthy eating habits if they have sedernity life styles, I stronglly believe that in the longer run banning the advertisements won't reduce the problems of obesity.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The student addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on junk food advertising and obesity, while clearly stating their own opinion in the introduction and conclusion. The position is maintained consistently throughout the essay. Ideas are extended and supported with reference to external examples, such as studies by Harvard Medical Center. However, there is a slight tendency to over-generalise in the supporting arguments, and some explanations could be more rigorously developed to reach the highest band levels. Overall, the prompt requirements are fully met, earning a solid Band 7.0 for Task Achievement.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay demonstrates a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Each paragraph has a distinct focus, starting with the introduction and differing views, moving to supporting evidence, and concluding with a reiteration of the writer's stance. Cohesive devices are used reasonably well, such as 'whereas', 'consequently', and 'altough'. However, there are some minor mechanical errors in cohesion and referencing, and paragraphing could be slightly more polished. The overarching flow remains easy to follow and the progression makes sense, justifying a Band 6.5.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'genetical metabolism' and 'promotional ads'. However, there are several spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'sedernity' instead of 'sedentary', 'mainted' instead of 'maintained', and 'avaliable' instead of 'available'. There are also idiomatic awkwardness and collocation issues like 'bone in meat' and 'eating buds'. These lexical inaccuracies prevent the score from rising higher, placing the response firmly at Band 6.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, including conditional forms and subordinate clauses. However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are numerous errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('Most of the people argue', 'two and half depends'), spelling errors in grammatical markers ('becasue', 'altough'), and awkward punctuation. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur with enough frequency to detract from the overall quality, aligning best with the Band 5.5 descriptors.
