Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt partially by discussing both views on junk food advertising and obesity, and includes a concluding opinion. However, the ideas remain limited and under-developed. For instance, the discussion on how advertisements directly cause obesity lacks robust supporting evidence and real-world examples. Similarly, the counterargument mentions physical activity and lifestyle factors, but this is presented in a very simplistic manner without adequate elaboration. While a clear position is attempted, the overall development is superficial, meaning the response sits at this level where ideas are introduced but not fully explored or extended across the essay.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay displays some organization with a recognizable introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is attempted, and transitional phrases such as 'Moreover' and 'On the other side of the coin' are utilized to signal shifts in thought. Nevertheless, there is no clear overall progression of ideas, and cohesive devices are often mechanical or misused, as seen in the awkward transition 'As for that, both the views will discuss'. Furthermore, referencing is occasionally unclear, and repetitive sentence structures and cohesive patterns impede a smooth, logical flow from one point to the next, reflecting the characteristics of this level.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to convey the basic message about junk food and health. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'adverse effect' and 'consumption', but these attempts are accompanied by noticeable errors in word choice, form, and spelling, such as 'obessity', 'ouside', 'single handlely', and 'high calories food'. These lexical errors and awkward collocations cause some difficulty for the reader and demonstrate a lack of precision, capping the lexical score at this level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response demonstrates a limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on basic patterns with frequent errors when attempting more complex forms. There are recurring issues with subject-verb agreement and plurals, such as 'people often argued' instead of 'people often argue', 'the other several reason' instead of 'several other reasons', and 'heart related disease' instead of 'heart-related diseases'. Additionally, problems with verb tenses and prepositional usage appear throughout the text, and these frequent errors cause noticeable difficulty for the reader in understanding the precise meaning.
