Student answer (Band 6.0)
Some people think that fast food adverstisement is the cause of obesity and such advertisements should be legally stopped. While other beleive that obesity is not the effect of junk food advertisements, thus, no such policy should be adopted. I agree with the banning suggestion, as advertisements normalize the unhealthy eating habits. Even though, some people consider banning the advertisement as counter productive because people take it as an attack on freedom of speach.
Recurrent exposure to something leads to deceiving our brains into considering that product normal and makes it appealing in our view. Our unconcious part of brain is evolved to notice patterns and when it see something again and again in a comfortable environment, it considers that thing likeable. This is the main motive behind any advertisement and even in the case of fast food. Seeing fast food on our screen again and again make us forget the unhealthy nature of these products and we get addicted to it. So, the governments should consider banning such ads to make newer population lesser suseptible to these habit. For instance, governments around the world has banned the advertisement of ciggerate and it lead to decrease in smokers' quantity.
On the other hand, people who are opposite to this idea consider such an act a infringement of freedom of speach. They deem banning things are likely to prdouce opposite results as people do not want dictation in their personal choices. Everyone should be free eat whatever they want and every company should be free to advertise its products. But this argument is not very strong. For example, drugs are not allowed to be advertised as they have dire effects on poeple's health. So, when scientific data has proven that obesity is also very dangerous for the public health, anything contributing to it should be dealt as a risk.
In conclusion, fast food advertisements should be banned to avoid the risk of normalizing the unhealthy eating habits and possible health risks such as obesity.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on junk food advertising and providing a clear personal opinion in favor of banning such ads. You present relevant ideas, such as the psychological impact of repeated exposure and the counter-argument regarding freedom of speech, supported by examples like the tobacco and drug advertising bans. However, some ideas remain slightly under-developed; for instance, the exploration of how advertising normalizes eating habits could have been expanded with more precise sociological or economic reasoning. To reach the next level, your arguments need to be fully extended and supported with greater depth and nuance throughout every paragraph.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
Your essay demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear progression from introduction to body paragraphs and a final conclusion. You use basic cohesive devices to connect your ideas, such as 'While other believe', 'On the other hand', and 'For example'. However, the cohesion can sometimes feel mechanical or faulty, and referencing is occasionally unclear, as seen in minor shifts between plural and singular referents. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct points, but to achieve a higher band, your use of cohesive devices needs to be more flexible and natural, avoiding repetitive transitional phrases and ensuring smoother logical transitions between sentences.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'counter productive', 'recurrent exposure', and 'infringement'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors that occur throughout the text, including 'adverstisement', 'beleive', 'unconcious', 'suseptible', 'ciggerate', 'poeple', and 'prdouce'. While these minor lexical inaccuracies and spelling slips do not severely impede communication, they restrict your score. To improve your lexical score, you need to use a wider range of precise vocabulary with accurate spelling, better control of collocations, and fewer basic slips in word forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures such as conditional-like ideas and subordinate clauses. There are, however, several grammatical errors present, particularly in subject-verb agreement and article usage, such as 'governments around the world has banned' instead of 'have banned', 'decrease in smokers' quantity', and 'a infringement'. Punctuation is generally acceptable, and these errors rarely impede communication, placing your writing comfortably at this level. To move higher, you need to produce a higher frequency of error-free complex sentences and demonstrate stronger control over grammatical patterns, prepositions, and pluralisation.
