Student answer (Band 5.0)

It is a very common knowledge that obesity is one of the major problem of this generation. I think both the arguments stand their ground but I lean more towards the idea that junk food advertisment plays a huge role in promoting obesity.

As far as how I see it, visual representation of anything, specially if its food attracts the customer on its own. If that billboard happens to be on the busy road and you are passing by that billboard again and again, there will comes a time when you are standing at the primesis of resturant serving the junk food. This may happen very ocassionaly, may be at least 3-4 times in a week.

I am also an avid fan of this believe that training your mind also plays an important role in controlling these cravings. If you train your mind on eating healthy food and know how to control it, then you will automatically find these advirtisements repetitive and boring.

As I recalled, in my teenage years, I largely become attracted to junk food because of these advirtisements. This habit of eating junk food, at least 2-3 times in a week detrioates my health, both mentally and physically. From then onwards, I started to control my mind and become aware of my eating habits. Healthy eating not only boost my health but i also become more confident in my body. And there also comes a time when these advertisements didn't has any affect on me.

In short, we can say that advertisements may or may not play a major role in obesity. Its actually your mind that carries all of your lifestyle and it may become your biggest friend or enemy towards your health.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response addresses the task partially. While both views are acknowledged briefly, the discussion remains somewhat limited and superficial. The writer introduces their own opinion and provides a personal anecdote, but the ideas are under-developed rather than extended and supported. The prompt asks to discuss both views and give your own opinion, and although the writer attempts this, the arguments concerning why junk food advertising should or should not be banned lack depth and thorough exploration. For instance, the mention that advertisements are everywhere is noted, but the broader societal impacts are not fully realized, keeping the response at a level where ideas are stated rather than deeply examined.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some basic organization with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a concluding remark, but there is no clear overall progression of ideas throughout the essay. Paragraphing is attempted, but the logical flow between sentences and paragraphs is occasionally disrupted. For example, transitioning from the discussion of billboards to personal mental training feels disjointed. Cohesive devices are used in a somewhat repetitive or mechanical manner, such as starting multiple sentences or clauses with phrases like 'If that billboard...' or 'As I recalled...'. While the general direction of the writer's thoughts can be followed, referencing and paragraph transitions lack seamless logical connection.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to convey the basic message. There are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, such as 'advertisment', 'primesis', 'resturant', 'ocassionaly', 'believe' instead of belief, 'advirtisements', and 'detrioates'. These errors indicate an attempt to use less common vocabulary, but they introduce inaccuracies that occasionally cause some difficulty for the reader. The range of vocabulary remains basic and repetitive, relying frequently on simple terms to describe the relationship between advertising and personal health habits.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response demonstrates a limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on simple sentences and occasional complex structures that are often faulty. There are frequent grammatical errors, including issues with article usage, verb forms, and tense consistency, such as 'is one of the major problem' instead of problems, 'there will comes a time', 'largely become attracted', and 'didnt has any affect'. Punctuation and subject-verb agreement errors are persistent throughout the text. These frequent errors cause difficulty for the reader and reflect a restricted control over more complex grammatical patterns.
