Student answer (Band 5.5)

In several societies, beign over weight is consider as a large issue. Certain individuals consider that advertisments of fast food are responsible for this and these should be banned. However, Others believe that advertisments fast food do not contribute to the issue of beign over weight and should not be banned. This essay will examines both views about advertisements of junk food should be banned or not, I consider that these advertisments should be banned in societies.

To begin with that people who consider that obesity is a major issue due to a large advertisments of fast food. Junk food is unhealthy for people and these type of meal should be banned. In certain societies, there are huge numbers of junk food brands for instance KFC, Macdonald and cheezious they are preparing junk food and advertising their different type of meals like pizza, burger, chicken wraps and many others. Futhermore these foods are unhealthy for people if people eat unhealthy on daily basis can suffer from different diseases so these junk foods should be banned in society. these foods are also cause of obesity for instance, if people eat junk food use of soft drinks on daily basis also cause of beign over weight. In today's world, obesity is becoming a major public health concern.

On the other hand, people who thought fast food is not contributing in the issue of obesity. They believe junk food is convenient such as, whenever they are busy in work in the offices or any other places of work they can just order fast food for their lunch and it's a time saving for them. Moreover, peolpe can conveniently buy junk food for several events for instance, celebrating birthday parties, and celebrating wedding anniversaries of someone, they just order these type of foods and deliver at their homes. However, in my perspective, junk food like pizza, burger, and soft drinks are not good for public health.

In conclusion, the advertising of junk food should be banned in societies because these are unhealthy. However, sometimes on any special occasions such as, birthday parties or celebrating our children good progress it's a good option but not on daily basis.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both views on junk food advertising and providing a personal opinion. However, the treatment of the ideas remains somewhat limited and under-developed. For example, while the writer mentions convenience and events in the second body paragraph, these points are not fully extended with specific explanations or convincing supporting evidence. The position is stated in the introduction and reinforced in the conclusion, but the reasoning throughout the body paragraphs tends to be repetitive, frequently reverting to the simple assertion that junk food is unhealthy. To progress to higher bands, the writer needs to present fully developed, well-supported arguments that thoroughly explore both sides of the issue without excessive repetition.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay displays some overall organization with clear paragraph breaks separating the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion, and the writer attempts to use cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion'. However, there is no clear overall progression of ideas, and the flow is frequently disrupted by mechanical or inaccurate linking. For instance, transitional phrases like 'Futhermore these foods are unhealthy' are awkwardly attached to sentences without proper punctuation or integration. Additionally, referencing is occasionally unclear, and the repetitive structure of the arguments hinders smooth logical transitions between sentences. Improving the variety and accuracy of cohesive devices and ensuring a logical progression of thought are essential steps for advancement.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task, containing noticeable errors that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary related to the topic, such as 'public health concern' and 'convenient', but these are accompanied by frequent spelling mistakes (e.g., 'beign', 'advertisments', 'Macdonald', 'Futhermore', 'peolpe') and inappropriate word choices or word forms, such as 'a large advertisments' and 'good progress'. These lexical errors reflect a restricted control of word choice, collocation, and spelling. To achieve a higher band, the writer must expand their lexical repertoire and ensure greater accuracy in spelling and word formation when attempting less common items.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The essay demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences and basic clause patterns. When the writer attempts complex sentences, they are frequently faulty, characterized by missing verbs, incorrect subordination, and severe punctuation errors. Examples include 'In several societies, beign over weight is consider as a large issue' and 'if people eat unhealthy on daily basis can suffer from different diseases'. There are frequent errors in subject-verb agreement, verb forms, and missing articles throughout the text, which can cause difficulty for the reader and obscure meaning. To improve, the writer needs to incorporate a wider variety of complex grammatical structures and exercise greater control over basic sentence construction and punctuation.
