Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response addresses the prompt minimally, attempting to discuss both views and provide an opinion regarding junk food advertising and obesity. However, the ideas remain limited and under-developed, lacking sufficient supporting examples or extended reasoning. Furthermore, the length requirement is not met, as the response contains only 201 words, falling short of the 250-word minimum. To reach a higher band, the writer needs to fully expand on both perspectives with specific examples and ensure the full word count is met.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some basic organisation in the text, with attempts to separate ideas into paragraphs, such as 'one the first hand' and 'one the second hand'. However, there is no clear overall progression, and cohesive devices are frequently inaccurate, mechanical, or used inappropriately (e.g., 'however i partially agree' used awkwardly at the start). Paragraphing is also inconsistent and relies heavily on run-on sentences. To improve, the writer should use standard cohesive phrases naturally and structure paragraphs with clear topic sentences and supporting details.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is limited and repetitive, with frequent spelling errors (e.g., 'broblem', 'tu', 'obesty', 'meanline', 'igree') and word-choice inaccuracies (e.g., 'lake' instead of lack, 'sleep so far'). While the meaning can sometimes be guessed, these noticeable lexical errors cause difficulty for the reader. To move up, the student needs to build a more varied working vocabulary, learn correct word forms, and check spelling carefully before finishing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The range of grammatical structures is very limited, relying heavily on basic, repetitive sentence patterns. Attempts at complex sentences are faulty, featuring frequent errors in verb forms, prepositions, articles, and punctuation (e.g., 'junk foods have much calories that lead toward the obesty and make a huge problem'). These frequent errors can cause strain and difficulty for the reader. To improve, the writer should practice forming accurate simple and complex sentences, paying closer attention to subject-verb agreement and article usage.
