Student answer (Band 5.5)

There is an ongoing debate whether the advertising of the junk food should be banned, while others argue that junk food advertising doesn't contribute to the problem of obesity. I strongly believe that, obesity is regarded as a major problem. Although, some people see a hidden benefit in the junk food.

On the one hand, some people believe that junk food should be banned. The reason is not only the advertisement of the junk food at a larger level, but also the eating habits. For an instance, Samoa is the leading nation of obesity. Obesity doesn't leads to serious illnesses, but also to uncertain death. Basically, one has to bear an expensive cost.

On the other hand, some people hold a strong belief, that advertising the junk food doesn't contribute to the problem of obesity. They believe that, terrible eating habits leads to obesity. For an instance, not counting your calories while eating can cause obesity. The other reason is the advertisement of junk food in the name of healthy food. Excersing daily can not only decrease the chances of obesity, but it also leads to a disciplined life.

In my opinion, advertisement of the junk food in the name of healthy food should be banned. For example, bournvita is still advertising it as a protein drink for children. But, the ingredients list says different story. This is still sending the wrong message within the society.

In the end, i would like to conclude that advertising of the junk food should no be banned, instead advertisement of the junk food as a healthy food should be banned.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You present both views and give a personal position, so the response addresses the main parts of the prompt. The examples of Samoa and Bournvita also show an effort to support your points. However, the discussion is only partial: the first view is not clearly explained as an argument about advertising, and the claim that obesity “doesn't leads to serious illnesses” contradicts the usual point you appear to be making. Your position is also difficult to follow: you support banning misleading health claims, but conclude that junk-food advertising “should no be banned” without clearly distinguishing this from a complete ban. Explain each side more fully and state consistently whether you support a total ban or targeted restrictions.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, your opinion, and a conclusion. “On the one hand” and “On the other hand” help signal the contrast. However, progression within paragraphs is often unclear: the first body paragraph moves from advertising to eating habits, illness, and cost without showing how these points connect. Repeated openings such as “For an instance” also make the linking mechanical, while the conclusion repeats the position in a way that conflicts with the opinion paragraph. Use clearer topic sentences, connect each example directly to its claim, and make the final paragraph resolve rather than repeat the argument.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “obesity,” “eating habits,” “ingredients list,” and “disciplined life,” which makes the general subject clear. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “at a larger level,” “uncertain death,” and “in the name of healthy food.” “Excersing” is also misspelled, and repeated use of “junk food” and “advertisement” limits variety. These choices sometimes make the intended meaning less precise. Build a more accurate set of phrases for discussing marketing and health, and check spelling and collocations so that your ideas are expressed naturally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt some complex forms, including “Although, some people…” and the paired structure “can not only… but it also…,” but control is inconsistent. Errors occur in basic sentence patterns and agreement: “Obesity doesn't leads” should be “Obesity doesn't lead,” and “terrible eating habits leads” should be “terrible eating habits lead.” There are also problems with articles and punctuation, as in “I strongly believe that, obesity” and “a strong belief, that.” The final sentence contains “should no be banned,” which obscures the intended meaning. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement, article use, and punctuation, then proofread complex sentences to ensure their clauses are complete and correctly connected.
