Student answer (Band 5.5)

Many community believe that obesity is a major concern, government should ban unhealthy foods advertisement. Nevertheless, some people think that junk food not only the part of obesity and not should be banned. Although junk food create a wide range of problems, I believe that lacks of physical activity and non balance diet also a major reason of obesity.

On the one hand, grease foods generates various diseases in the human body. Junk foods have excessive amount of calories, fewer essiencial nutrients and high level of fats and sugar which can creates various health issues. Therefore, the government should impose tariffs on these non healthy foods, it would be rises their price in local market and people might be discourage to sell out these like ingredients. For example, some advanced countries followe the tax formula to control an items or anything else which can detrimental for local community.

On the other hand, some individuals less familiars with physical activity, it would mainly concern of obisity. If a person involve in physical activities such as playing different sports like cricket, foodball, badminton and baseball, it would provide good fitness instead of fatty body. Moreover, unbalanced foods which not recommended by a doctor can also bring of obesity. For instance, some people have habit of eating too much meat and chicken without any physical activities can produce a various problems, particularly overweight.

In conclusion, although junk food create obesity because the presence of highly non healthy ingredients, I strongly agree that non participant with major physical activities also causes this problem.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both views and give a position: you acknowledge that junk food can contribute to obesity, while arguing that inactivity and diet also matter. The two body paragraphs provide relevant points, including the calorie and fat content of processed food and the role of sports. However, the discussion of advertising itself is limited: you do not explain how advertisements might influence people, nor develop the opposing view that advertising does not cause obesity. Your proposal to impose tariffs shifts from the question of banning advertisements and is not clearly connected to the argument. The conclusion also focuses on physical activity rather than clearly weighing both views. Develop each side more fully and make your opinion directly answer whether advertising should be banned.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two contrasting body paragraphs signposted by “On the one hand” and “On the other hand,” and a conclusion. This makes the overall arrangement coherent. Some links between ideas are less clear, however. In the first body paragraph, the move from health effects to imposing tariffs does not explain how this supports the question about advertising. The conclusion repeats the point about physical activity without bringing the two views together. Connect each example explicitly to its paragraph’s main claim, and use clearer referencing so readers can follow what “these” and “this problem” refer to. More varied, precise transitions would also make the progression feel less formulaic.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You attempt topic-related vocabulary, including “obesity,” “physical activities,” “essential nutrients,” and “impose tariffs,” and these choices show some awareness of the subject. However, the range is limited and several inaccurate word choices or forms make parts difficult to interpret, such as “grease foods,” “non healthy foods,” and “non participant with major physical activities.” Spelling errors, including “essiencial,” “followe,” and “obisity,” also reduce clarity. Aim for accurate, natural collocations and check spelling carefully. For example, use “high-fat foods” rather than “grease foods,” and “lack of physical activity” rather than “non participant with major physical activities.” Building a bank of precise phrases for advertising, diet, and exercise would help you express the argument more clearly.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You use some attempts at complex structures, including “Although…” and “which…,” and the reader can generally identify your main points. However, the range is limited, and errors in sentence construction and agreement occur frequently enough to make several sentences difficult to follow. For example, “Many community believe” lacks plural agreement, while “junk food create” and “which can creates” have incorrect verb forms. The sentence beginning “Therefore, the government should impose tariffs…” joins two independent clauses with a comma, and “some individuals less familiars” is missing a verb. Practise building accurate simple sentences first, then add subordinate clauses. Check subject–verb agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries during proofreading.
