Student answer (Band 5.0)
Obesity is considered as a huge problem in some societies. Some people claim that advertisement of junk food is the primary reason behind this problem and should be prohibited, while others argue that junk food advertisement is the not cause of obesity and that food avertisement of junk food should not be banned. In this essay, I will discuss both the viewpoints and provide reasons on why I believe junk food advertisement should be banned to reduce obesity among people in the society.
On the one hand, people believe that prohibiting businesses from advertising junk food will negatively impact the sales. If businesses are not allowed to market their foods, then consumers will not be aware of their existance. For example,
On the other hand, banning junk food advertisement will encourage consumers to change their eating habit. Since, people are always exposed to posters and banner of fast foods, they tend to consume them whenever they are hungry and do not have a meal prepped. Due to this exposure, by default people tend to order junk foods instead of ordering something that it healthy. Therefore, I strongly believe, the constant advertisement of fast food is the primary reason that make people obese. Moreover, the junk foods are created with a lot of preservatives and chemicals that makes people addict to them.
In conclusion, although banning advertisement of junk food can

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You state a clear opinion—that junk-food advertising should be banned—and introduce both sides of the debate. However, the opposing view is only begun: the point that businesses may lose sales and consumers may not learn about products ends with “For example,” and is not supported. Your argument for a ban includes a relevant explanation about repeated exposure and a brief claim about preservatives, but these ideas need fuller development and evidence. The conclusion is also unfinished (“although banning advertisement of junk food can”), so the response does not complete the task. In addition, the response is 20 words below the required minimum. Develop both viewpoints with complete examples, then finish with a clear concluding judgement.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has a recognisable introduction, two body paragraphs signalled by “On the one hand” and “On the other hand,” and an attempted conclusion. These markers help the reader identify the intended structure. However, progression is disrupted because the first body paragraph stops after “For example,” and the conclusion is left incomplete. As a result, the discussion does not reach a logical resolution. Some links are also mechanical or unclear: “Since” begins a sentence fragment-like explanation, while “Therefore” introduces a conclusion that is not fully established by the preceding points. Complete each paragraph, connect claims to explanations and examples, and use referencing and transitions that show how each idea relates to the central argument.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a reasonably varied set of topic-related expressions, including “prohibited,” “consumers,” “exposed,” “preservatives,” and “addict,” which allows you to discuss advertising and eating habits. Some phrasing is imprecise or repetitive, however: “advertisement of junk food” is repeated, and “food avertisement of junk food” contains a spelling error and an awkward construction. “Meal prepped” is informal in this context, while “something that it healthy” appears to be an inaccurate word choice. These slips do not prevent the main ideas from being understood, but they limit precision and naturalness. Use accurate collocations such as “junk-food advertising” and “prepared meal,” and check spelling and word forms carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including conditional phrasing (“If businesses are not allowed…”) and a reason clause beginning “Since.” Most sentences communicate their intended meaning, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “Since, people are always exposed…” is incorrectly punctuated, and “the primary reason that make people obese” has a subject–verb agreement error. In “the junk foods are created… that makes people addict,” the relative clause and agreement are not controlled, and the final sentence is incomplete. Aim to produce complete sentences and check agreement in clauses, especially when a singular noun such as “reason” is followed by a verb. Proofread punctuation around introductory clauses and ensure the conclusion has a complete grammatical structure.
