Student answer (Band 6.0)

Obesity is considered a notable problem in several socities, for which, a few people blame junk food advertisement and demands it to be banned, while the rest don't feel that junk food advertisement has impact on obesity problem, and therefore it shouldn't be banned. From my point of view, advertising often attracts customer to a certain product, but it's the sole decision of the consumer to buy the product.

The sole purpose of advertising is to attract the overall audience. The advertisement works as a bait on the hook for the customers to fall for it. Companies spend a tremendous amount of money for this purpose. Junk food companies use this startegy to make their products as lucrative as possible. For example, Mountain Dew advertisements imply that consuming their drinks before an adventurous scenario can boost one's morality by eliminating their fear. In reality, this drink contains large quantity of processed sugar which is driving factor for obesity if consumed on a regular basis. Advertising influences people with limited knowledge, especially the younger generation. So, the demand for banning junk adertising is somewhat justifiable.

However, not all customers are to be fooled with bizzare advertisement. Most adults are capable of understanding that the made up claims on commercials' purpose is to make their product look unique and desriable. For instance, Samsung is one of the largest electronics manufacturing company globally. Their commercials about Televisions with 4k resoultion suggets that the consumer experiences a surreal feeling of being transported to another dimension, which is inside the television. But no adults with even the slightest of common sense will believe such advertising. The same can be said for junk food advertisements. But even after realizing that, a person can still crave for junk food because they chose to do so. Also, having junk food once in a few weeks, or a few months do not lead to obesity. The overall diet and amount of exercise determines a person's physical condition.

In conclusion, there are enough reasons to support the banishment of junk food advertising, and vice versa.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both views and state a position in the introduction: advertising can attract consumers, but buying remains their choice. The two body paragraphs give relevant support, including the example of sugary drinks and the point that overall diet and exercise affect health. However, the discussion is uneven: the case for banning advertising is linked to young people and misleading influence, while the opposing case relies heavily on adults recognising exaggerated claims. The conclusion says there are reasons on both sides but does not clearly restate your own judgement, leaving your position less definite than it could be. Develop the effects of advertising on purchasing and obesity more directly, and make your final opinion explicit.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, one paragraph for each view, and a conclusion. The contrast between the paragraphs is easy to follow, and signposts such as “For example,” “However,” and “In conclusion” help guide the reader. Some connections are less precise or feel mechanical, particularly the repeated use of “advertisement” and the shift from the Samsung example to junk food without fully explaining how the comparison supports the argument. The conclusion also does not resolve the discussion. Improve progression by linking each example explicitly to the claim it supports, using clearer referencing, and ending with a direct summary of your position.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range for the topic, including terms such as “processed sugar,” “lucrative,” “commercials,” and “overall diet.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, and some less common vocabulary is attempted. However, spelling and word-choice errors sometimes reduce precision: “socities,” “startegy,” “adertising,” “bizzare,” “desriable,” and “resoultion” should be corrected. Some expressions are also unnatural or imprecise, such as “boost one’s morality” and “banishment of junk food advertising.” Aim for accurate collocations and more precise topic vocabulary—for example, describe advertising as “promoting” products and refer to “banning” advertisements. Proofreading would make your vocabulary more effective.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including subordinate clauses such as “because they chose to do so” and “if consumed on a regular basis.” Most meaning remains clear, but some grammatical errors occur. In the opening, “a few people blame … and demands it” has a subject–verb agreement problem and an unclear pronoun; “the rest don’t feel that … has impact” also needs an article. In “Most adults are capable of understanding that the made up claims … purpose is,” the clause structure and possessive relationship are difficult to follow. There are also agreement issues in “a few weeks … do not lead” and “the overall diet and amount of exercise determines.” Check agreement, articles, and sentence structure, especially in longer clauses.
