Student answer (Band 5.0)

Some people argue that junk food promotions are a major cause of excessive body fat and cause diseases like obesity while the other group says that junk food being promoted is not the cause of obesity and should not be banned. Although fast food or junk food just being advertised is not the reason of obesity but a large number of people are eating it in their daily life and its very easy to access in their daily life that can lead them to unhealthy habbits.

Everything is good in a limit but when you do something in excessively it can cause problems.I perosnally like fast food but i know the limits and i belive advertisments promoting it to be very healthy is doing negative impact to the society. Junk food being too much around us can be a reason that people notice it and the advertisments lure people towards it.

Other people who think junk food advertisments are not the reason because as a brand or business they have the right to run their ads. Just ads are not causing the damange people are being reckless about it.

In short, its the lack of awarness or should i say people care very less about their diet and health. Advertisments are not doing harm that much if people know the value of being healthy. Junk food should be avoided most of the times.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You introduce both positions and give a personal view, especially when you say advertising can “lure people towards” junk food, while consumers also need to take responsibility. However, the discussion is only partial: the opposing view is reduced to businesses having a right to advertise, without explaining why advertising may not contribute to obesity. Your own position is also not fully clear, since you suggest advertising has a negative impact but later say it does not do much harm. The ideas about access, personal limits and health awareness need specific explanation or examples. The response is also 17 words below the required minimum, leaving limited space to develop the arguments. Address both views more fully and state a consistent conclusion.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for your view and the opposing view, and a concluding paragraph. This helps readers identify the main stages of your discussion. However, progression between ideas is limited, and some links are unclear. For example, “Although fast food or junk food just being advertised is not the reason of obesity but…” combines contrasting ideas without a clear grammatical relationship. The final paragraph repeats the point about personal responsibility rather than drawing together the two sides. Use clearer topic sentences and connect each claim to its explanation; ensure that contrast markers such as “although” and “but” are not used together in the same construction.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “excessive body fat,” “daily life,” “advertisements,” “diet” and “healthy.” This is enough to communicate the general subject, but the range is limited and several expressions are imprecise or repetitive. “Junk food being too much around us” is vague, while “doing negative impact” is an unnatural collocation; “cause a negative impact” would be more idiomatic. Spelling errors such as “habbits,” “perosnally,” “belive,” “damange” and “awarness” are noticeable and reduce accuracy. Aim for more precise terms, such as “high-calorie processed food,” “consumer choices” and “public health,” and proofread carefully for spelling.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt some complex sentence forms, including “Although …” and “when you do something…,” and the main message is generally understandable. However, the range is limited, and complex constructions are often faulty. In “Although … is not the reason of obesity but…,” the contrast structure is incomplete; use either “Although …, …” or “... but …”. The sentence beginning “Junk food being too much around us can be a reason that people notice it” also has an unclear grammatical relationship between its clauses. There are frequent issues with sentence boundaries and punctuation, as in “problems.I perosnally,” and missing apostrophes in “its” where “it’s” is intended. Practise building accurate compound and complex sentences, then check punctuation and sentence boundaries.
