Student answer (Band 4.0)

Some people likes to eat junk food and some doesn't likes. We can blame that junk food cause obesity. But those people who often likes to eat junk food doesn't accept it. For example if I like to eat junk food i will never blame that junk food cause for obesity. Beacuse I like to eat junk food. There is a choice for people what they want to eat. If they don't like to eat junk food they may quite this. In junk food I like burger which is full of calories . I know that it's not good for health. There are many things in junk food who have calories in them but people will like to often eat them It's dependant on people what they want to do. On the other side if some people does not like to eat junk they could eat healthy food what they want to eat. If they want to eat vegetarian food They can eat no one can stop them If they want to eat non vegetarian they can also eat . It's depends on people thinking what they think about junk food. If they like junk food their opinion should be good. Now by conclusing the whole paragraph we says that junk food could not responsible for obesity. People should have to changed their mind set about junk food . I also like junk food but I am not blaming that junk food cause for obesity

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0

The response gives a clear opinion that junk food should not be blamed for obesity, especially in the conclusion: “junk food could not responsible for obesity.” It also includes a personal example about liking burgers and recognises that people choose what to eat. However, the task asks you to discuss both views, and the opposing argument—that advertising may encourage unhealthy eating—is not explained at all. The response therefore addresses the prompt only minimally, with ideas that remain general and are not supported by relevant evidence or developed examples. The personal example illustrates your preference but does not establish why advertising is or is not responsible. The response is also six words below the required minimum. To improve, explain each side of the debate and support your position with a specific reason or example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5

There is a basic attempt to organise the response: it begins with a general statement, uses “On the other side” to introduce another point, and ends with a conclusion. The reader can follow the broad idea that food choices are personal. However, the discussion does not progress clearly between distinct arguments, and the second section mainly repeats that people can choose what to eat rather than developing a contrasting view about advertising. Linking phrases such as “For example” and “Now by conclusing” are used, but connections between sentences are often unclear or mechanical. Several ideas run together without effective punctuation, particularly the discussion of vegetarian and non-vegetarian food. Use separate paragraphs for the two views and your opinion, and make each paragraph develop one main point.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the central topic, with relevant terms such as “junk food,” “obesity,” “calories,” “healthy food,” and “vegetarian.” The response also attempts phrases such as “mind set” and “responsible for,” showing some effort to express an argument. However, the same basic words—especially “like,” “eat,” and “people”—are repeated frequently, limiting precision and flexibility. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, including “junk food cause for obesity” and “people thinking.” There are also spelling errors, such as “Beacuse” and “conclusing.” Build a wider set of topic vocabulary and use more precise expressions for advertising, diet, and personal responsibility; check spelling and collocations when revising.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response mainly uses simple sentences, with some attempts to connect ideas through conditional forms, as in “if I like to eat junk food i will never blame…” This shows an effort to express cause and hypothetical situations, but control is inconsistent. Subject–verb agreement errors occur in “Some people likes” and “some doesn't likes,” while “junk food could not responsible” is missing a necessary verb form. Other sentences have problems with articles, plurals, and sentence boundaries, for example “There are many things in junk food who have calories in them but people will like to often eat them.” Capitalisation and punctuation are also inconsistent. These errors sometimes make the intended meaning less clear. Practise accurate basic sentence patterns first, then add controlled complex sentences using “because,” “although,” and “if.”
