Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You attempt to discuss both positions and state opinions, but the response only minimally addresses the question. The opening says, “I completely believe with both views,” which leaves your own position unclear, and the arguments are not developed enough to explain how advertising affects obesity or why it does not. The example about rich people buying junk food and poor people being unable to afford it does not clearly support the claim that advertising should be banned. The conclusion is unfinished, so the discussion has no final judgement. The response is also 196 words, 54 words below the required minimum; nine words copied from the prompt were excluded from the count. Develop each view with relevant reasoning and examples, then state a consistent opinion.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is a basic attempt to organise the response into an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and phrases such as “On the other hand” and “In conclusion” signal transitions. However, ideas are not arranged in a clear, coherent progression: the first body paragraph shifts between people’s preferences, obesity and whether junk food should be banned without explaining the links. The second paragraph’s contrast between rich and poor consumers is also difficult to connect to the claim about advertising. Repeated statements such as “I think this opinion is completely right” do not advance the discussion, and the conclusion is left blank. Plan one paragraph for each view and use clear links between claim, explanation and example.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
Your vocabulary is basic and repetitive, with frequent reliance on “junk food,” “people,” “problems” and “believe.” Some wording communicates the topic, including “obesity,” “advertising” and “diseases,” but several choices are inaccurate or unclear, such as “different major problems is contributed” and “large problem to contribute for junk food.” There is also a spelling error in “blam.” These limitations sometimes make it hard to understand the intended argument, particularly where you discuss who can buy junk food. Build a more precise range for discussing causes and effects—for example, terms such as “promote,” “consumption” and “health risks”—and check spelling and collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response relies mainly on short, simple clauses, with little variety in sentence structure. Frequent errors in sentence formation and verb forms sometimes obscure meaning. For example, “In this statement talks about a people believe” lacks a clear grammatical subject, while “If people ate low junk food so does not contributed major problems” has an incomplete conditional structure and an incorrect verb form. There are also problems with agreement and articles, as in “different major problems is contributed.” A few sentences, such as “Some people believe that junk food should be banned,” are understandable, but control is inconsistent. Practise complete subject–verb sentences and accurate conditional patterns, then proofread for tense, agreement and punctuation.
