Student answer (Band 5.5)

In few cities, Being over weight is considered as a major issue. Many people think that fast food marketing is mainly responsible for this problem as it attractes a lot of individuals and they get chubby. Meanwhile, other individuals thinks that junk food should not be banned as it is not the only solution for that specific problem, other elements are also reponsbile for that obesity.

Many people think that junk food is unhealty and leads to over weight which is considered to be true if it is being used by people regularly. In many cases it is observed that individuals who use the junk food regularly on routine basis have more health problems compared to other individuals who do not use junk food.

Meanwhile many individuals think that junk food is not the only reason behind the obesity. They think that there are many other factor that leads to the specific problem like people who usually do not take part in any physical activities like exercise, running, hiking, swiming and other activities they have more chances to be physically unfit due to their work routine as they are sitting all day working with computers. So that type of work routine leads to overweight. It is not due to junk food but due to ignoring the physical exercises.

I think that, junk food is not the only cause for the obesity. An individual routine as play main role in his health if a person eat healthy and do not perform exercise he will get chubby, on the other hand if a person use junk food and do exercise everyday he will be healthy. So banning the advertising of junk food is not the solution for the problem but doing physical activities and maintaing you routine active will give you better results.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You give a clear opinion in the final paragraph: advertising should not be banned because lifestyle and exercise also affect obesity. You also discuss the view that junk food can contribute to weight gain, noting that regular consumption is associated with health problems. However, the two positions in the prompt are not fully explored: the argument about advertising itself is only briefly mentioned, and the opposing view is presented mainly as a claim about other causes rather than why advertising should remain permitted. Your examples about sedentary work and exercise are relevant, but the reasoning is general and the comparison between diet and exercise is not sufficiently supported. Develop each side with a specific explanation or example, then connect your conclusion directly to advertising.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, paragraphs presenting different causes, and a concluding opinion. Transitions such as “Meanwhile” and “I think that” help signal shifts in focus. However, progression is somewhat repetitive: the idea that junk food is not the only cause appears in both the introduction and conclusion, while the body paragraphs do not clearly build a balanced discussion of the two views. Some links between sentences are abrupt, particularly the move from sedentary work to the claim that obesity is “not due to junk food.” Use topic sentences that identify each side of the debate, and connect supporting details to those claims with clearer referencing and logical transitions.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “obesity,” “physical activities,” “advertising,” and “health problems.” There are also attempts to vary expressions, such as “physically unfit” and “work routine.” However, the range is limited and several informal or imprecise choices reduce the academic tone: “get chubby,” “use the junk food,” and “better results” are not precise in this context. Spelling errors such as “unhealty,” “swiming,” and “maintaning” are noticeable, and some phrases are awkwardly formed. Build a more accurate set of collocations for discussing diet, advertising, and public health, and proofread spelling and word forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including a conditional comparison in the final paragraph and a relative clause in “people who usually do not take part.” This shows some range, and the overall meaning is generally understandable. However, errors occur frequently in agreement, articles, verb forms, and sentence boundaries. For example, “Many people think … as it attractes” has incorrect subject–verb agreement, while “other individuals thinks” repeats this problem. The final paragraph contains a run-on structure: “if a person eat healthy and do not perform exercise he will get chubby.” Practise forming complete sentences with accurate agreement and punctuation, especially when using conditionals and clauses joined by “as,” “if,” or “which.”
