Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You address the topic and state a position: “I believe that advertising should not be banned.” You also mention both the possible influence of advertising and other factors, such as genetics, diet and exercise. However, the two views are not explained or supported in enough detail. The argument that advertising attracts customers is relevant, but “there is no proper way to blame it” does not clearly explain why advertising should not be banned. The opposing view—that advertising encourages unhealthy eating—also needs a specific explanation or example. Your conclusion repeats that individuals are responsible, but does not fully resolve the debate. Develop each side with a clear reason and a relevant example, and make your own position consistent and explicit throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and the paragraphing broadly separates the discussion. However, progression within paragraphs is difficult to follow because ideas are sometimes placed beside one another without showing their relationship. For example, the first body paragraph moves from obesity to research, genetics, diet and exercise without a clear sequence. Linking expressions such as “whereas,” “however” and “in addition” are frequent, but some are used inaccurately or do not connect the ideas logically. The second body paragraph also shifts from advertising’s reach to companies’ business strategies and then to blame. Organise each paragraph around one main point, explain it, and use fewer, more precise transitions and clear references.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “obesity,” “junk food,” “genetics,” “proper diet” and “business strategy,” so the reader can identify the subject of your argument. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are unclear, which sometimes makes the meaning difficult to follow. For instance, “regulate on their daily basis” does not clearly express what viewers should regulate, and “junk problem” appears to be an inaccurate phrase. “The companies who regulates with fast food” is also an awkward way to describe businesses that sell or promote such food. Aim for precise, natural combinations such as “control their eating habits” and “fast-food companies.” Check spelling and word forms, including “influenced” and “companies’ tactics.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt some longer sentences and use contrast clauses, as in “Whereas, I believe that advertising should not be banned, however…”. However, complex structures are often faulty, and frequent errors in sentence boundaries, agreement, articles and verb forms can make the argument hard to follow. Examples include “obesity has been considered has major problem,” “some research … says,” and “it completely depend upon the individual daily routine.” Several sentence fragments or incorrectly punctuated clauses also appear, such as “where, most of the people…” and the final “neither to be influenced by the advertisement.” Practise building complete sentences with one clear main clause, then check subject–verb agreement, articles and punctuation. More accurate simple sentences would improve clarity before you add complexity.
