Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You address both views and give a final position: you first argue that advertising can influence people, then present hormonal and medical factors, and conclude that advertising should be restricted rather than banned. This is relevant to the question, but the discussion is only partial and the position is not fully clear: the conclusion says advertising is a major reason for obesity, yet also says it should not be banned, without explaining the distinction between restriction and a ban. Several points are asserted rather than developed, such as children being especially influenced and hormonal imbalance contributing to weight gain. Explain how each factor affects obesity and support the claims with a specific example or evidence. The response meets the stated length requirement.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a concluding paragraph. This helps readers identify the broad direction of the discussion. However, progression within paragraphs is uneven: the first body paragraph moves from advertising’s influence to sedentary lifestyles, food availability, work habits, and social recommendations without clearly showing how these points connect. Linking phrases such as “Moreover,” “On the other hand,” and “To put it in a nutshell” are used, but some connections feel mechanical or do not clarify the relationship between ideas. The conclusion also introduces a distinction between banning and restricting ads that has not been developed earlier. Group related points and use clearer references and transitions to show how each supports the argument.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “obesity,” “hormonal imbalance,” “physical exercise,” and “processed food,” and you attempt to express ideas about advertising and lifestyle. However, the range is limited and errors in spelling, word choice, and collocation are noticeable, sometimes making meaning difficult to follow. Examples include “socital cultural,” “adds,” “sedentiery life style,” and “workoholic”; “outside food” is also unclear in this context. Repeated use of “major problem,” “vital role,” and “these type” limits precision. Build a reliable set of topic-specific expressions and check spelling and word forms. More accurate choices such as “advertisements,” “sedentary lifestyle,” and “people with demanding work schedules” would make the argument clearer.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a reason clause beginning “due to” and a contrast introduced by “On the other hand.” However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently enough to make several sentences difficult to understand. The opening, “It is a debatable issue is overweight is a main problem,” has an unclear clause structure. Other examples include “some argued that … does not contribute,” where the verb form and agreement are inconsistent, and “These type of adds should be banned due to it has,” which has problems with number and clause construction. Articles, plurals, and punctuation also need attention. Practise building accurate sentences with one main clause and a clearly formed supporting clause before attempting longer structures.
