Student answer (Band 5.5)
There always has been a debate whether fastfood should be banned as it leads to obesity and other serious health issues while others argue that food fast doesn't leads to obesity and it shouldn't be banned.I firmly believe that fast food is a double-edged sword because it brings some disadvantages along with the advantages as well. Thus, it shouldn't be banned completely.
One of the main reasons why fast food shouldnt be banned because it is readily available to people who can't because of their busy schedule. For example indivuals living abroad far from their families mostly don't know how to cook food and have their meals from outside.Additionally, a complete ban on fast food will bring a recession in food industry because it will lead to a complete shut down of restaurants which in turn impact the economy by reducing numbers of taxpayers in the country. For example, closing the restaurants will reduce business opportunities and reduce the variety of food available as well.
On the other hand defenders argue that fast food brings numerous health concerns as over-intake of fast food can lead to health problems such as blood pressure and cardiac diseases. One of the crucial disadvantage of regular use of fast food is that it slow downs metabolism of individuals which results in dizziness making people lazy.As a result they loose their interest to be engaged in physical activities.Furthermore, this detrimental lifestyle develops fat on skin of an individual gradually which makes them look fat.Hence,if not consumed wisely disadvantages of consuming fast food can outwieght the advantages.
To sum it up,fast food shouldn't be banned completely because it benefits the individuals, businesses and the economy as well. Moreover, the government must develop an effective plan to make public aware of harmful impacts of consistent use of fast food.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You present a clear overall view that fast food should not be banned completely, and you include arguments both for and against restrictions. The points about convenience and effects on restaurants address one side, while health concerns address the other. However, the task specifically asks about advertising, but your response discusses fast food itself and does not explain whether advertising contributes to obesity or should be banned. This means a central part of the question is only partially addressed. Several claims, such as a ban causing a “complete shut down” of restaurants, are also asserted rather than carefully supported. To strengthen the response, focus directly on advertising’s influence, develop both views with relevant examples, and make your position on advertising explicit.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a coherent overall arrangement: an introduction, separate paragraphs presenting opposing arguments, and a concluding position. Linking expressions such as “On the other hand,” “Additionally,” and “To sum it up” help readers follow the broad structure. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes less clear because several claims are placed together without fully explaining their connection. For instance, the discussion moves from convenience to the economy and then to restaurant variety, while the health paragraph shifts from diseases to metabolism and appearance. Some transitions feel mechanical, and punctuation spacing makes boundaries between ideas harder to see. Group related points more tightly, explain how each example supports its claim, and use clearer sentence boundaries and referencing.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “readily available,” “health concerns,” “cardiac diseases,” and “detrimental lifestyle,” which helps communicate the main ideas. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “complete ban” and “effective plan.” However, inaccurate word choice, spelling, and collocation are noticeable and sometimes make meaning less precise. Examples include “food fast,” “slow downs metabolism,” “fat on skin,” and “outwieght.” Repetition of “fast food” and “reduce” also limits flexibility. Aim for accurate, natural combinations such as “fast-food advertising,” “slow the metabolism,” and “gain excess body fat.” Proofreading spelling and choosing precise terms will make your argument clearer and more academic.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mixture of simple and complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “because,” “which,” and “while.” This gives the response some structural variety, and the main message is generally understandable. However, errors in sentence construction and agreement occur across the response. For example, “There always has been a debate whether” needs a more complete construction, and “food fast doesn't leads” combines an incorrect word order with faulty verb agreement. Other examples include “One of the main reasons … because” and “it slow downs metabolism,” where the sentence pattern or verb form is inaccurate. Commas and spaces after punctuation are also inconsistent. Practise building accurate complex sentences and check subject–verb agreement, articles, and punctuation during revision.
