Student answer (Band 5.5)
Undoubtedly, being overweight is a matter of considerable significance in today's world. However, I completely agree with this view. Some people believe that junk food advertising is a major cause of this and it should be banned, while others think that it is not the actual cause of obesity. This essay will discuss both views before giving my own.
On the one hand, there are clear reasons why junk food advertising should be banned. The primary reason is that it allows individuals to obtain food within a short distance without making much effort. This habit makes people lazy and idle. For example, university students who live in hostels are more likely to depend on fast food instead of ordering homemade food. They always think about their tastebuds. Whereas, they know that these type of foods lead to severe health problems. As a result, junk food not make people lazy but also brings many health affecting problems.
On the other hand, others think that junk food is not the actual cause of obesity. In other words, food plays a vital role in overall body's development. But lack of excercise is the actual reason of being overweight. For instance, a recent research shows that, people who do exercise regularly and enjoy junk food on weekends might remain more healthy than others who just eat normal food and does not exercise regularly. Therefore, junk food is not the real problem, lack of exercise makes people obese. In my opinion, I completely agree with second view, fast food is just a source of enjoyment we should eat this occasionaly. But we should not ignore the importance of exercise.
In conclusion, both views have some own merits. But, I believe we can stay healthy with the habit of eating junk food. If we add exercise in our daily lives

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You discuss both positions and state your own view, particularly when you say that you agree with the second view and that exercise matters. However, the response only partially develops the task: the first argument focuses on convenience and laziness rather than explaining how advertising itself contributes to obesity, and the second treats lack of exercise as the actual cause without considering how diet and activity can both affect weight. The example about students is relevant but does not show the influence of advertising, while the “recent research” example is vague and unsupported. Your position is also not fully consistent: you initially say you “completely agree with this view,” which is unclear, then later identify the second view. Make your stance explicit from the introduction and support each side with more directly relevant reasoning.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. Signposts such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the broad organisation. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes unclear. For example, the first body paragraph moves from food availability to students’ laziness and then to health problems without clearly linking these points to advertising. “Whereas” is used as a fragment, and the conclusion ends with an unfinished conditional idea, so the final point is not brought to a clear close. Some linking phrases, including “In other words” and “Therefore,” announce relationships that are not fully explained. Develop each paragraph around one clear claim and connect its example explicitly to that claim.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a reasonable range of topic-related vocabulary, including “considerable significance,” “severe health problems,” “overall body’s development,” and “lack of exercise.” These choices make the subject clear, and some phrases show an attempt to use more formal language. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “health affecting problems,” “tastebuds” in this context, and “some own merits.” Spelling errors such as “excercise” and “occasionaly” also reduce accuracy. Repetition of “junk food,” “actual cause,” and “exercise” limits flexibility. Aim for more precise expressions and check spelling; for example, distinguish advertising from access to fast food, since they are not interchangeable ideas.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a mixture of simple and complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “while,” “who,” and “that,” and the overall meaning is usually understandable. However, complex structures are often faulty, and errors recur in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence boundaries. Examples include “these type of foods,” “junk food not make people lazy,” and “people who do exercise … might remain more healthy than others who just eat normal food and does not exercise.” The sentence beginning “Whereas” is incomplete, and the final sentence, “If we add exercise in our daily lives,” is also unfinished. Practise checking subject–verb agreement and completing dependent clauses, then proofread each sentence for a clear subject and main verb.
