Student answer (Band 5.0)

It has been argued that whether junk food or advertising them is the main culprit behind obesity which has become an significant issue. Well, personally, i believe that, junk food is the main cause behind having obesity.

We can see a lot of people are eating junk food nowadays. Sometimes, they take it as a part of food habit. A lot of butter and fat are used to make these kind of food which increases cholestorol level. As a result obesity happens. A lot of diseases are happening from these foods like diabetes, heart attack, joint problems etc.

In addition, we can also see huge level of advertisement of junk food around the city . Specially young generation is attracted by these advertisements. A lot of children are having type-1 diabetes from obesity issue.

Our government can play vital role to solve this problem by creating more awarness in the people. For example, creating awarness in social media or making posters again junk food or imposing strict rules against junk food selling can solve this problem. It is high time we all should focus on this problem. Otherwise, it will be too late when obesity becomes a bigger problem in our entire nation. By declining obesity, we can gift ourselves a healthy nation.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You give a clear personal view that junk food is the main cause of obesity, and you include relevant points about high-fat foods, health problems, advertising and possible government action. However, the task asks you to discuss both views, and the response does not explain the argument that advertising contributes little to obesity or why it should not be banned. Your discussion of the opposing view is therefore missing, while your own position is only briefly supported. The proposed measures focus on awareness and restrictions on selling, rather than directly weighing whether advertising should be banned. The response is also 37 words below the required minimum, which limits the space available to develop the arguments. Address both sides explicitly and support each with a specific example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic paragraph structure: it introduces your view, gives reasons related to food and advertising, and ends with possible solutions. Linking expressions such as “As a result,” “In addition,” and “For example” help show some relationships between ideas. However, there is no clear progression through both sides of the question: the paragraph about advertising does not explain its role in obesity, and the solutions paragraph shifts away from the discussion without a developed transition. Several sentences repeat “A lot,” and the final warning about obesity becoming a bigger problem does not add a new supporting point. Organise the essay around the two opposing views, then state your judgement and connect each paragraph’s evidence to its main idea.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main points, including “obesity,” “advertisement,” “cholesterol level,” “diabetes,” and “strict rules.” There are also attempts at more formal expressions, such as “main culprit” and “play vital role.” However, the range is limited and some word choices or collocations are inaccurate or awkward, including “a part of food habit,” “huge level of advertisement,” and “creating awareness … against junk food.” Spelling errors such as “cholestorol” and “awarness” are noticeable, and repeated phrases such as “A lot of” reduce variety. Build a more precise vocabulary for discussing advertising, consumer choices and public health, and check spelling and natural word combinations during revision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You use mostly short, straightforward sentences, with some attempts to connect clauses, for example, “As a result obesity happens” and “Otherwise, it will be too late when obesity becomes a bigger problem.” Meaning is generally understandable, but errors occur frequently in sentence structure, articles, agreement and punctuation. Examples include “whether junk food or advertising them is the main culprit,” “an significant issue,” and “these kind of food.” The opening sentence is particularly difficult to follow because its clause structure is incomplete or unclear. Capitalisation and comma use are also inconsistent, as in “i believe that,” and “city .” Practise forming complete topic sentences and checking singular/plural agreement, articles and sentence boundaries; then add more accurate complex sentences to express cause, contrast and qualification.
