Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response covers all parts of the task, providing a clear overview and selecting key features for comparison. You successfully identified the main trends, such as Germany's dominance in both markets and the decline of the UK and Belgium. The data is accurately reported, and comparisons are made between the two years and the two destinations. To reach a higher band, ensure the overview is more distinct and clearly separated from the body paragraphs, and avoid minor inaccuracies like stating Belgium's share remained unchanged when it actually shifted from 5% to 5% (which is technically stable, but the phrasing could be more precise). Overall, the information is well-selected and logically presented.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. You use paragraphing effectively to separate the introduction/overview from the specific data analysis for India and China. Cohesive devices such as 'In contrast', 'Regarding', and 'while' are used to link ideas. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as the slightly awkward opening sentence structure. The flow is generally smooth, and the reader can easily follow the comparison between the two time periods and the different countries. Further variety in cohesive devices would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey information with precision, using terms like 'dominated', 'accounted for', 'strengthened its lead', and 'slipped marginally'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'the larger exporter' (should be 'the largest') and 'Italy contribution to slipped' (should be 'Italy's contribution slipped'). These errors do not impede communication. To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated collocations or synonyms for 'increased' and 'decreased' to avoid repetition, although the current range is adequate for a Band 6.5-7.0 level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While there are several error-free sentences, there are also recurring grammatical slips, such as 'Germany dominated had become' (a tense error) and 'France share declined' (missing possessive 's'). Punctuation is generally functional, though there are some missing commas and awkward phrasing in the introduction. The range of structures is sufficient to communicate the data clearly, but more consistent control over complex sentence forms and subject-verb agreement would be required for a higher band score.
