Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the charts, identifying key trends and making relevant comparisons. However, the response is slightly under the 150-word minimum, which impacts the overall development of the task. While the overview is clear, the description of the data for China is underdeveloped, lacking the detail provided for the India data. To improve, ensure all data points are fully explored and the minimum word count is met to allow for a more comprehensive analysis of the trends.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs. Cohesive devices such as 'In contrast', 'In 2000', and 'By 2011' are used to guide the reader. However, the flow is occasionally hindered by minor errors in sentence structure and punctuation, such as the comma usage in the second paragraph. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the transition between the India and China data could be smoother to enhance the overall coherence of the report.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, with the student using terms like 'illustrate', 'leading exporter', and 'dominated'. There are some inaccuracies, such as 'Germany, share had rose' (should be 'Germany's share had risen') and 'Belgium figures 25%' (which lacks a verb). While the range is sufficient to convey the main points, the student relies on basic phrasing in some areas. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring grammatical accuracy when using technical terms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are several grammatical errors that affect the accuracy of the writing, such as 'the largest the largest' (repetition), 'Germany, share had rose' (incorrect possessive and verb tense), and 'proportion to other countries also rose' (missing subject/article). These errors are frequent enough to cause some minor confusion, though they do not fully impede communication. Increasing the variety of error-free complex structures will help improve this score.
