Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The pie charts compare the proportions of goods exported from various European Union countries to India and China in 2000 and 2011.

Overall, Germany became the dominant exporter to both India and China by 2011, while the United Kingdom’s share of exports to India declined considerably. In addition, exports to China became increasingly concentrated in Germany, whereas exports to India were distributed more evenly among several countries.

Regarding exports to India, the United Kingdom was the largest exporter in 2000, accounting for 29%, followed by Belgium at 25% and Germany at 15%. However, by 2011 Germany had become the leading exporter, with its share rising to 25%, while Belgium declined slightly to 20%. In contrast, the United Kingdom’s contribution fell sharply to 13%. France and Italy experienced modest increases from 8% to 9% and 7% to 9%, respectively, whereas Finland remained unchanged at 2%.

Turning to China, Germany already held the largest share in 2000 at 38%, and this figure increased substantially to 48% in 2011. By comparison, Belgium’s exports decreased markedly from 5% to 2%, while France fell from 13% to 10%. The United Kingdom also recorded a decline, from 9% to 7%, whereas the Netherlands rose slightly from 4% to 5%. Austria remained stable at 2%, and the proportion classified as Other countries doubled from 4% to 8%.
