Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0
The response effectively addresses all parts of the task. You have successfully identified the main features, such as Germany's dominance in both markets and the shifting trends for the UK and Belgium. The data is accurately reported, and the comparisons between the two years and the two destinations are clear. The overview provides a concise summary of the key trends, which is essential for a high band score. To reach the highest band, ensure that all data points are transcribed perfectly, as there is a minor error in the figure for Belgium in 2011 (written as 135 instead of 13%). Overall, the response is well-structured and covers the requirements of the prompt thoroughly.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 8.5
The response is logically organized, with a clear introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs focusing on India and China respectively. The progression of ideas is smooth, and you have used a range of cohesive devices such as 'In contrast', 'whereas', and 'regarding' to link your points effectively. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two distinct markets. The referencing is generally clear, and the flow of information is easy to follow. To improve further, ensure that the transition between sentences remains varied to avoid a slightly mechanical feel in some parts of the body paragraphs.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.5
You have used a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the information accurately, including terms like 'proportions', 'market share', 'dominated', and 'marginal changes'. The language is appropriate for an academic report. There are a few minor slips, such as 'eporter' (typo for exporter) and 'yeara' (typo for years), which are likely due to haste rather than a lack of knowledge. The use of vocabulary is precise enough to describe the trends in the pie charts effectively. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more sophisticated collocations or varied synonyms for 'increase' and 'decrease' to demonstrate greater flexibility.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.5
The response demonstrates a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures. You have used subordinate clauses effectively, such as 'while the United Kingdom and Belgium lost market share'. Most sentences are error-free, and the grammar is generally accurate. There are a few minor errors, such as the typo '135' for '13%' and the capitalization error 'germany', but these do not impede communication. The control over punctuation and sentence structure is solid. To aim for a higher band, ensure consistent proofreading to eliminate small slips and consider using a wider variety of complex grammatical structures to demonstrate greater control.
