Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response attempts to address the task but fails to provide a clear or accurate summary of the data. While the prompt asks for a comparison of exports in 2000 and 2011, the student struggles to identify the key features. The data points mentioned are often confusing or inaccurate (e.g., the percentages cited for Germany in 2011 do not align clearly with the provided charts). The overview is weak and lacks a clear synthesis of the trends. To improve, you must ensure that the data you report is precise and that you highlight the most significant changes or differences between the two years rather than listing isolated figures.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical flow is hindered by poor sentence structure and unclear referencing. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To commence with' and 'Moreover', but they are often used incorrectly or in a way that does not help the reader follow the argument. The transition between ideas is mechanical, and the lack of clear subject-verb agreement makes it difficult to follow the progression of information. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, which restricts your ability to describe the data with precision. Phrases like 'lowest figure of export' and 'didn't show quite progress' are awkward and imprecise. There are also issues with word choice, such as using 'exportation' where 'exports' would be more natural. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use a wider range of vocabulary related to trends and data, such as 'accounted for', 'experienced a decline', or 'remained stable'. Focus on using words that accurately describe the movement or status of the data points.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Germany export the highest'), missing articles, and incorrect preposition usage. Sentence structures are mostly simple, and attempts at more complex sentences often result in errors, such as 'Although Belgium and Germany the significant amount of export...'. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring that every sentence has a clear subject and a correctly conjugated verb. Proofreading for basic errors like pluralisation and tense consistency will also help.
