Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to address the task by summarizing the provided pie charts. However, it fails to provide a comprehensive overview. The data selection is incomplete; for instance, the report mentions specific countries like Austria and Belgium but fails to synthesize the data effectively or provide a clear comparison of the overall trends. Several figures are missing or misreported, and the analysis of the 2011 data is incomplete, leaving out significant portions of the chart. The response lacks a clear, analytical focus, resulting in a fragmented presentation of the data rather than a coherent summary of the main features.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is repetitive and often mechanical, such as the frequent use of 'while' and 'to India from'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between the two years. The transition between the 2000 and 2011 data is abrupt, and the lack of logical signposting hinders the overall flow of the report. Paragraphing is present but does not effectively group related information to support the development of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic structures like 'exports to India from'. There are several spelling errors, such as 'Europian' and 'exporta', and word choice issues, such as 'even more greater', which is grammatically incorrect and lexically redundant. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to convey the data with precision. While the meaning is generally understandable, the lack of variety and the presence of errors in basic terminology prevent the response from reaching a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response relies on a limited range of sentence structures, mostly simple sentences that lack complexity. There are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'exports... was 20 percent') and awkward phrasing (e.g., 'The exports to India from were very high'). Punctuation is generally functional, but the overall control of grammar is weak. The errors are frequent enough to cause some difficulty for the reader and indicate a lack of control over complex structures, which are necessary for a higher band score.
