Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the task by identifying main features and making comparisons. However, the analysis is somewhat limited. You have selected specific data points, but the overview is slightly inaccurate; for instance, stating that the UK accounted for the largest proportion of exports to India in 2000 is correct, but the claim about Austria having the smallest percentage for China is not fully supported by a comprehensive look at the data. The report lacks a clear, cohesive summary of the trends across the two years. To improve, ensure you cover the most significant changes and provide a more balanced overview of the data provided in the charts.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive (e.g., 'In 2000', 'In 2011', 'Furthermore'). The progression of ideas is sometimes disjointed, particularly when moving between countries and years. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as when you mention 'it lowest percentage' without a clear subject. To reach a higher band, try to use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that your sentences flow more naturally into one another rather than listing data points in isolation.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. You rely heavily on basic terms like 'proportion', 'percentage', and 'represented'. There are also some errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'chine' instead of 'China' and 'higer' instead of 'higher'. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of sophisticated vocabulary and the presence of spelling errors limit the score. To improve, incorporate more varied reporting verbs and nouns, such as 'constituted', 'accounted for', 'fluctuated', or 'remained stable', and pay closer attention to spelling accuracy.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response uses a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Examples include missing articles ('from united kingdom'), subject-verb agreement issues ('spain a slightly higer percentage'), and awkward phrasing ('it lowest percentage'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of commas and capitalisation of proper nouns like 'India', 'China', and 'Austria'. To improve, focus on basic grammatical accuracy, such as using articles correctly and ensuring proper nouns are always capitalised. Increasing the variety of complex sentence structures will also help boost your score.
