Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to provide an objective summary of the data. Instead of reporting the trends, the writer includes personal opinions and speculative commentary, such as 'I don’t know how such a big different maybe indian government change your policy'. This is inappropriate for an Academic Task 1 report. Furthermore, the data interpretation is inaccurate; the charts show EU exports to India and China, but the writer confuses the direction of trade, suggesting India is an exporter to the EU. The response lacks a clear overview and fails to highlight the main features or make meaningful comparisons, resulting in a failure to address the core requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The essay lacks logical paragraphing and structure. The transition between the discussion of India and China is abrupt, and the text is presented as a stream of consciousness rather than a structured report. Cohesive devices are largely absent or misused, such as the repetitive use of 'the first number is' and 'the second num is'. There is no clear progression of ideas, and the lack of punctuation makes the text difficult to follow. The overall arrangement is not coherent, and the referencing of data points is confusing and poorly integrated into the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary is very limited and repetitive. The writer relies on basic phrasing like 'big and huge' and 'the first number is'. There is a lack of academic register, with informal language such as 'I don’t know' and 'as you know' appearing throughout. Word choice is often inaccurate, such as using 'exportation' instead of 'exports' or 'exporting'. The student struggles to use terminology appropriate for describing statistical data, such as 'percentage' instead of 'proportion' or 'share'. The range is insufficient to convey the information clearly, and errors in word formation are frequent.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The grammar is highly problematic, with frequent errors that impede communication. There is a lack of basic sentence structure, with many run-on sentences and a complete absence of proper punctuation. Subject-verb agreement is consistently incorrect, for example, 'the illustration give information' and 'india is make a big exporter'. Tense usage is inconsistent and often inappropriate for describing historical data. Complex structures are attempted but are almost always faulty, leading to confusion. The lack of control over basic grammatical rules makes the text very difficult to read and understand.
