Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the ability to fully develop the response. While you have identified some main features, such as Germany's growth and the decline of other nations, the analysis is superficial. You have not provided a comprehensive overview or sufficient data comparisons across the two years. The under-length nature of the response means that key information is missing, and the task is only partially addressed. To improve, ensure you provide a clear summary of the trends and support your points with more detailed data points from the charts.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive start. However, the logical progression is hindered by the lack of depth and the brevity of the text. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Overall', 'To begin with', and 'Moreover', but they are sometimes used mechanically. The referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'this style was followed by Germany', which does not clearly link to the previous data. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, unified focus that flows logically from the previous one.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The range of vocabulary is limited and repetitive. You rely on basic terms like 'things', 'exporting', and 'increase'. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'exporting of things' instead of 'exports of goods' and 'nearabout', which is not standard academic English. The use of 'overtake' is acceptable, but the overall lexical control is basic. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more precise vocabulary related to data description, such as 'fluctuated', 'accounted for', 'experienced a decline', or 'surpassed'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'The pie charts is illustrated' (subject-verb agreement), 'Europe countries' (should be 'European countries'), and 'exportation from United Kingdom for both countries was decreased' (incorrect passive voice usage). The sentence structures are mostly simple, with limited attempts at complex sentences. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the spacing around numbers and percentages. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement, correct article usage, and the accurate application of passive voice for describing data.
