Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the data, including comparisons between the two years and the two destinations. However, there are significant factual errors regarding the years provided in the prompt (e.g., referring to 2000 as 2001). Additionally, the overview is slightly confusing as it mixes data points without clear synthesis. While the main trends are identified, the accuracy of the data reporting is compromised by these inconsistencies, which prevents a higher score. To improve, ensure that the data points are transcribed accurately from the charts and that the overview highlights the most significant trends rather than listing specific figures.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or inaccurate, such as the awkward transition 'While other European countries full filled the needed required goods'. The progression of ideas is generally logical, but the referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly when jumping between India and China. The use of linking words like 'whereas' and 'in contrast' is present but could be more varied and precise to improve the flow between sentences and paragraphs.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision. There are several instances of word-choice errors, such as 'importing' instead of 'imports', 'expanded its tertiary' (which is unclear), and 'full filled' instead of 'fulfilled'. The repetition of basic verbs like 'showed' and 'remained' limits the sophistication of the response. To reach a higher band, you should focus on using more precise terminology related to data description, such as 'accounted for', 'constituted', or 'experienced a significant shift', and ensure correct collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('The given pie charts illustrates') and incorrect preposition usage ('distribution of goods imported to India'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces before commas. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from being considered error-free. Focusing on basic subject-verb agreement and proofreading for punctuation errors would significantly improve the overall quality of your writing.
