Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response effectively addresses all parts of the task. You have provided a clear overview of the main trends and successfully selected and reported key features from the data. The comparisons between 2000 and 2011 are accurate, and you have highlighted significant shifts, such as Germany's rise as the primary exporter to both India and China. The data is well-integrated, and the inclusion of specific percentages supports your summary effectively. To reach a higher band, ensure that you consistently highlight the most striking differences or similarities rather than listing every single data point, as this would demonstrate a more sophisticated level of data synthesis.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The response is logically organized, with a clear introduction, an overview, and separate body paragraphs for India and China. The progression of ideas is smooth, and you have used cohesive devices effectively, such as 'while,' 'followed by,' and 'in both years,' to link information. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two main categories of data. The referencing is clear throughout, and the flow of information is easy to follow. The structure is coherent, and the use of cohesive devices is natural and unobtrusive, which is characteristic of a high-band response.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You have used a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the information accurately. Phrases like 'accounted for,' 'made up,' and 'fell considerably' demonstrate a good command of language appropriate for describing statistical data. The vocabulary is precise and fits the context well. While the range is adequate, incorporating a few more varied synonyms for 'increased' or 'decreased'—such as 'surged,' 'plummeted,' or 'witnessed a marginal rise'—would further enhance the sophistication of your writing. Overall, the lexical control is strong, and there are no significant errors in word choice or collocation.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.5
The response displays a good variety of complex sentence structures, such as the use of participial phrases ('increasing from 15% to 25%') and subordinate clauses ('while the share of the UK decreased'). The majority of your sentences are error-free, and your control over punctuation and grammar is consistent. There are no major grammatical errors that impede communication. To achieve a higher score, you could experiment with more diverse sentence beginnings or slightly more complex comparative structures to demonstrate even greater flexibility in your grammatical range.
