Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The response is logically organized, with a clear introduction, an overview, and separate body paragraphs for India and China. This structure allows the reader to follow the progression of data easily. Cohesive devices such as 'while', 'followed by', and 'in contrast' are used effectively to link ideas. You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary appropriate for a data description task. Phrases like 'accounted for', 'represented', 'increased from... to...', and 'declined' are used accurately. The vocabulary is precise and allows for a clear description of the trends. While the range is sufficient for the task, incorporating a few more sophisticated synonyms for 'increase' or 'decrease' (such as 'surged', 'plummeted', or 'remained stable') would further enhance the lexical variety and demonstrate a higher level of control.

The writing is highly accurate, with a variety of sentence structures used throughout. You have successfully employed complex sentences to compare data points, such as 'Germany became more important in exports to both countries in 2011, while the share of the UK decreased.' Punctuation is used correctly, and there are no significant grammatical errors that impede communication. The majority of your sentences are error-free, showing a strong command of English grammar. The control over tense usage (past simple for the data) is consistent and correct.
