Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the main features and making relevant comparisons between the two years and two destinations. The overview is clear, highlighting the shift in Germany's dominance. However, the report could be improved by providing more precise comparisons rather than just listing percentages. For example, when discussing the 2011 data for China, the phrasing '48% of good Germany exported to China' is grammatically awkward and slightly confusing. Overall, the information is accurately selected and the key trends are identified, meeting the requirements for a Band 6.5 or 7.0, but it lacks the analytical depth required for a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the data for India and China. Cohesive devices such as 'In contrast', 'However', and 'respectively' are used to link ideas. While the progression is generally clear, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the referencing in the final paragraph is a bit disjointed. For instance, the sentence 'This is followed by the pecentage of France fell' is syntactically weak, which affects the flow. Improving the variety of linking phrases would help achieve a higher score.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to describe trends and proportions. There are some spelling errors, such as 'Kindom', 'trasporting', 'acconting', and 'obeserved', which are noticeable. The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited; for example, the word 'figures' and 'proportion' are used repeatedly. While the writer attempts to use some topic-specific language, the lack of precision in word choice and the recurring spelling mistakes prevent the response from reaching a higher band. To improve, the student should focus on using more varied synonyms and ensuring accurate spelling of key terms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'Germany become the country' (should be 'became'), 'proportion of goods that exports' (should be 'that were exported'), and '48% of good Germany exported' (should be 'of goods exported by Germany'). These errors occur frequently but do not impede the reader's understanding of the data. The control of punctuation is generally acceptable, but the sentence structure in the final paragraph is particularly weak. A wider range of error-free complex sentences is needed to reach a higher band.
