Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the data, such as the dominance of Germany in exports to China and the shift in export shares to India. However, the overview is somewhat disjointed and lacks a clear, cohesive summary of the most significant trends. Some data points are presented in a confusing manner, such as the reference to 'half of the export from the Belgium and UK' in 2000, which is not clearly supported by the visual data. While the key features are identified, the lack of precise comparisons and the inclusion of some inaccurate interpretations prevent a higher score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical flow is frequently interrupted by awkward phrasing and mechanical transitions. The use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes repetitive (e.g., 'in 2000', 'in 2011'). The referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between the different countries and years. The overall structure is functional but lacks the sophisticated linking required for higher bands.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The range of vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic terms like 'export', 'countries', and 'amount'. There are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'in start of 21 century' and 'makes also export'. The student struggles to use precise terminology to describe trends or proportions, which restricts the ability to convey information fluently. Spelling errors, such as 'u united kingdom', also detract from the overall quality.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors, particularly regarding subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Germany which have', 'India have half') and article usage. Sentence structures are generally simple, and attempts at more complex sentences often result in errors that impede clarity. Punctuation is inconsistent, with missing spaces after commas and periods. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic structures prevents a higher score.
