Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the task achievement score. Furthermore, the response is incomplete; the final paragraph is cut off mid-sentence ('France export %'), meaning the data for China is not fully reported or analysed. While you identified some main features, such as Germany's dominance, the lack of a complete summary and the failure to reach the required length prevent a higher score. To improve, ensure you provide a full overview of all data points and check that your response meets the minimum length requirement to allow for a comprehensive analysis of the provided charts.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive start. However, the progression of ideas is hindered by the incomplete nature of the final paragraph. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'In contrast' and 'Looking first at', but the overall flow is disrupted by the abrupt ending. The referencing is sometimes unclear, for example, 'the total contribution come form Germany', which lacks a clear connection to the previous sentence. To improve, focus on ensuring each paragraph has a clear topic sentence and that your ideas are fully developed before moving to the next point, ensuring the essay reaches a logical conclusion.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The range of vocabulary is limited and repetitive. You rely on basic terms like 'accounted for' and 'shares' throughout the text. There are also errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'Germany become particularly dominant in exports in China' (should be 'to China') and 'reported for the dominant shares' (should be 'accounted for'). The incomplete sentence at the end also limits the demonstration of your lexical range. To improve, try to incorporate more varied vocabulary related to data description, such as 'fluctuated', 'surpassed', or 'remained stable', and pay closer attention to prepositions following specific verbs.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the reader's understanding. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('The pie chart illustrate', 'total contribution come form'), incorrect verb tenses ('Germany become'), and missing articles or prepositions ('exports in China' instead of 'to China'). The sentence structures are relatively simple, and the attempt at more complex structures is marred by these persistent errors. To improve, focus on basic subject-verb agreement and ensure you proofread your work to catch simple errors in tense and word order. Practising the use of complex sentences with correct punctuation will also help raise your score.
