Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to cover the main features of the pie charts, but the analysis is superficial and lacks a clear overview. While you identify some specific percentages, the comparison between 2000 and 2011 is disjointed. The conclusion is extremely brief and fails to provide a meaningful summary of the data. To improve, ensure you group information logically rather than listing individual data points, and provide a clear, concise overview of the main trends (e.g., the dominance of Germany in exports to China). The current response lacks the depth required for a higher band score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The use of cohesive devices is mechanical and often inaccurate, such as the repetitive use of 'Then compare to' and 'where as'. The referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between the two years. To improve, use a wider variety of linking words and phrases to connect your ideas more fluidly, and ensure that each paragraph has a clear focus, such as one paragraph for India and one for China.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic terms like 'highest', 'proportion', and 'goods'. There are several spelling errors, such as 'approxmetily' instead of 'approximately'. The phrasing is often unnatural, for example, 'highest rank percentage' and 'single digit number below 10%'. To improve, try to incorporate more precise vocabulary related to data description, such as 'accounted for', 'witnessed a rise', or 'remained stable', and focus on using correct terminology for statistical trends.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('The pie charts presents'), missing articles, and incorrect preposition usage. Sentence structures are largely simple, and attempts at more complex sentences are often faulty, such as 'where other country are ranked at single digit number'. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, including correct verb forms and pluralization. Proofreading for common errors like missing 'the' or 'a' before nouns will also significantly improve the clarity of your writing.
