Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the charts, but the analysis is somewhat superficial. While you identify key exporters, the description lacks sufficient detail regarding the specific shifts in percentages between 2000 and 2011. For instance, you mention that Germany became the major source but do not quantify the extent of this change. The overview is also quite weak; it merely states that differences exist rather than highlighting the most significant trends, such as the dominance of Germany in both markets by 2011. To improve, ensure you provide more specific data points to support your comparisons.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally repetitive. For example, the transition 'Moreover' is used, but the connection between sentences within paragraphs could be smoother. The referencing is generally clear, though some sentences, such as 'previous major contributors were still the same, instead a rise in numbers were observed', lack a clear logical link to the preceding information. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring clearer transitions between ideas would enhance the flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for a higher band. You rely on basic terms like 'major exporter' and 'participating countries'. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'goods exporter' instead of 'exporter of goods' and 'export program', which is not the most accurate term for trade data. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to trends and data, such as 'fluctuated', 'accounted for', or 'a significant shift in market share'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are several grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. For example, 'Where United Kingdom was...' should be 'While the United Kingdom was...', and 'a rise in numbers were observed' contains a subject-verb agreement error (it should be 'was observed'). Additionally, the use of articles is inconsistent, particularly with country names. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to limit the score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage will improve your accuracy.
