Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The student successfully covers all parts of the task by reporting the main features of EU exports to India and China in 2000 and 2011, and makes relevant comparisons. Key data points, such as the UK being the largest exporter to India in 2000 and Germany dominating in 2011, are clearly identified. However, there are minor inaccuracies in the data reporting and overview; for instance, the student states that Germany became the largest exporter to India in 2011, which is supported by the chart, but the overview incorrectly mentions Germany as the biggest exporter to India in the second year when the charts show Germany taking over, yet misses some precise synthesis. Overall, the information is well-selected, presenting a clear picture of the data, which fully aligns with a Band 7 level.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall progression and logical organization. Information is divided into logical paragraphs, starting with an introduction, moving to an overview, and then detailing the exports to India and China respectively. Cohesive devices are used reasonably well, such as 'Overall', 'In 2000', 'In Contrast', and 'Meanwhile', which help guide the reader through the data. However, some referencing and transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive, and paragraphing could be slightly more balanced. This demonstrates clear logical organisation characteristic of a Band 7 performance.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student uses a sufficient range of vocabulary appropriate for an academic task, including terms like 'proportion', 'exporter', 'percentage', and 'constant'. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary ('distinct years', 'proportion', 'time-line'), though some word choices and phrasing are slightly unnatural or repetitive ('least exporter nation', 'number of exports'). Spelling is generally accurate, and errors do not impede communication. The lexical range is adequate to convey the information with some flexibility, fitting a Band 6.5 or solid Band 6 descriptor profile, rounded here to 6.5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The student demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating relative clauses and subordinate structures (e.g., 'while Austria remained the lowest exporter...', 'which decreased from the first year'). There are some grammatical and punctuation errors throughout the text, such as missing commas before non-defining clauses, minor capitalization issues ('european', 'spain'), and occasional awkward phrasing like 'Sweden and spain increased the number of exports'. Nevertheless, these errors rarely impede communication and the meaning remains clear. This reflects the characteristics of Band 6 grammar.
